STARTS AND STOPS IN MACHINE QUILTING

Start and Stops IN MACHINE QUILTING

I am having some difficulty with some with my starts and stops for my machine quilting. Anyone got some good tips on how to make it flawless? I posted on my blog the little project I am starting and I have noted that my stops and starts really SUCK! The wobbling I experience will get better as I practice more but right now I can not figure out what I am doing wrong for my starts and stops ....they are ugly.

I draw the thread to the top
I start with 5-6 small stitches.... then do the machine quilting around the template

When I go to stop I shorten the stitches for a few when I meet up at the beginning

For this project I am using Mary Matshuta's template with contact paper method on some of the block but I also planned to do some free motion machine quilting on some of the little blocks in the future.

Any ideas / tips would be helpful.

    THANKS

Sounds like you've got the tiny stitch technique correctly. I would say now it just takes practice.
