I feel a little silly asking this, but..........
I've always believed there is no such thing as a STUPID QUESTION, so here goes.
Is there a difference between my domestic sewing machine needles and the ones I would use in my HQ 16?
I have separate needles I purchased for the HQ, but none of them are smaller than 16 and I'd like to downsize my needle holes in FMQ.
I compared them to each other and they are the same lenth and have the same groove placement, etc.
Hope this will 'inform' somebody else too. and thanks!Tags: None

Yes, Lynn, there is a difference. Here is what Dr. Bob has to say about long-arm needles:
Groz-Beckert SAN 11 (Special Application Needle, style 11) is specifically made for multi-directional use, which is exactly what longarm machines need. Titanium-coated needles last longer and run cooler. Multi-directional design means more accurate stitching while moving the machine in any direction. Extra strength means maximum flexibility and bending. Deep scarf prevents skipped stitches, less puckering, and less thread breakage.
You can get a size 14 needle for your HQ here: http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/...ines/products/

I figured you would be my first resource. ha
I went on Superior's web site last night b/c Dr. Bob knows why/what to use. I read his dialog. I guess my 2nd question would be this: I use my HQ very very slowly right now :P so needing lots of speed is not an issue.
If the needle is the same 'size' i.e. dimensions, can I use my Microtex Sharps or Universals that I purchased for my Janome? It won't break my machine or anything like that?

Lynn, I just talked with the tech at my local dealer. He said do not use the domestic needles for the long arm, and reminded me that the part of the needle that goes up into the machine is different. The ones for the domestic machines have a flat side to line it up. The ones for the long-arm machines are round.
If you've been using the domestic needles with success...keep using them. After all, Superior is in the business of selling thread and needles, so of course they would say you need different kinds for each machine!
I'll be using the ones designed for specific machines.

Great answers, both of you! Thanks for the input.
No I haven't used my domestic needles for my HQ. I have the Broz-Beckert from Superior in 3 sizes (SAN 11), and HQ in 2 sizes. So I better stick with using the m.
Now I know!
Gee, I hope there is somebody else out there that learned something! tee hee
