    Accu Go cutter

So these have been out for a couple years and not much discusion here about them. On other sites some negitive comments about the pad wearing out fast and being expensive to replace, some part that has to be cleaned of fuzz every use that is a pain and you spend as much time fussing with it as you would just rotary cutting... And a few other things. Its a very large amount of money for me personally, so I need to be sure its a good purchase before doing so. Any comments other than I love it? How is it acutally to work with every day? Does it waste alot of fabric? Has it lasted well? Thanks much, Kate

Kate, I haven't got one of these cutters, but I have also wondered about wastage of fabrics. I have the feeling that I get more out of my fabrics if I cut with a ruler and rotary cutter and place the shapes so that I have only bits left that a miniature quilter might use. What do others think?

I have only used the accu quilt cutter for one quilt -- a hawaiian applique. I used all of the pieces as I did two pieces in reverse. There was not much fabric wasted for this project. I have also wondered how people like them for home use? Has anyone used the new small accu quilt?

I'm seriously considering one for applique projects (the Sharon Pederson Roses of Remembrance quilt). Any comments on experiences with that project? I'm anxious to see the Baby vs the Go. Betty D

I recently purchased the Go baby and have used it to cut out flowers and stems for a quilt I want to apply an applique border to. It worked quite well. While there was some waste in fabric that was due to my over cutting the size of fabric. You only need to cut a piece big enough for the area on the die you want. If you don't want the rest of the pieces on the die then don't make your material big enough to cover the whole die. Other than that I liked it. It worked well. Got all the pieces for applique on a King size quilt done in one evening. The new cutting pads are thicker and hopefully will last longer than the older ones. So far mine is still good to go. I too am wanting to do the Rose of Sharon quilt and so got that die also.

Thanks, Karen. I have yet to find anything I try that doesn't take practice. I guess practice = less waste of fabric. I do save all my scraps and use them for filling dog/cat pillows for the humane society. We'll have to keep in touch as to how the Roses of Remembrance project goes. Did you get the kit? It seems that you have a wonderful Bernina lurking in the background. I would love to have one in my future.

I agree with you, Lochen, that the rotary cutter would be my preference in cutting strips and squares. Betty D
