    I am NOT in Houston!

I've never been there. I think my parents drove us through TX on a trip from OH to CA when I turned 5. So really... I've never been to TX either.

    So this weekend, I am:
[list]going shopping with a girlfriend to a down comforter outlet. Lunch out, the whole day... yahoo!!
going to make some more kindle kovers.
will get a quilt ready, ironed, batting cut to size, backing prepped as I get to spend the day on a long-arm with my dealer on Tuesday!! [/list:u]

plus some meals will need made, I'll run the vac, and we'll go to church.

What are you doing since you aren't in Houston?

I'll be heading up the UGH Club (again). Congratulations Joyce on being an honorary member with me.

    Houston

This is officially my third year heading up our sad, pathetic group. However, I came up with a fun little idea to keep our minds off of where we're not. I'll post here in the forum when it's time -- later in the week -- and probably blog about it too.

And where is the down comforter outlet that sounds like a lot of fun? Is it within driving distance from let's say 20 miles west of Chicago? Do you get to test drive them -- like take a nap or something?

I wondered where the UGH club was. I will again be a member this year. But it's a beautiful day here in Ashburn, VA. A little Fall crispness in the air, the leaves are just about at peak color, and I have the weekend stretching before me. In addition to my regular weekendy chores, which I've almost finished, I plan to work on my quilt drawings for some future project and make another BOM block, and alter a few new clothes for my #2 son. I will be making April's BOM this weekend. I started really late, but I'm hoping to have most of the blocks done by the end of the year...unless I decide to stop and make an art quilt if I get one of my drawings finished the way I want it. But the BOM is for my bedroom and I'm making it mostly to give me a little practice in the traditional quilting arts. So whether i finish this year or next is not crucial. My goodness, but I rambled around in this posting. Cheers all.

Sign me up too. I'm hoping to make the spring show in Cincinnati though.

Meanwhile, this morning I finished to top for a Christmas wall hanging, will start a table topper tomorrow and am stitching the pieces for Snow Days, a pattern from Crabapple Hill. Who says we can't have fun away from Houston!

Oh how fun! I'm "honored" that you would have me as a member of your club!!!

The down comforter outlet is in Maquoketa IA. Imagine that!! You'd have about 2 1/2 hrs to get to me, then I'm 1/2 hr to the Mississippi River, then another 1/2 hr to the outlet. It was just OK. VERY warehouse-y. VERY!!

In my dream shopping, I wanted to get a comforter in size full for 3 beds and a twin size for my side of the bed when dh doesn't want covers yet. However, I got: a memory foam pillow (like my temperpedic!) for our son, a twin down blanket for me, a body pillow for me, a full sized comforter for our daughter, and a duvet cover for her. All that totalled $121. My friend got a down bed topper (?) for about $50 - queen size. It goes under the mattress pad but is down. She tried that out and was SO ready for a nap!

They didn't have many full comforters and the one I got was $65. But we had a coupon for one item at 20% off so I used it on that. With the $15 duvet cover, that a pretty nice deal.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend... well, except the altering clothes.

Last year and this year are exceptions for me NOT to go to Houston. My parents live in the area and my mom & I usually enjoy the show. Actually, I enjoy the show and she blazes through the vendor booths like lightning. It's amazing.
Last year was a schedule change for the dates of the show and this year we are planning a major family reunion/birthday party in December that will take priority over Market. I will miss the inspiration of the quilts but plan to take inspiration from this major family event.
I actually will putter around today with some of the books, notions, etc. that I have purchased in previous years in Houston but have yet to tackle. ops:

The way it's going, I might just wind up to be a permanent UGH member - but it's usually because I'm doing something else just as fun. Last year, we were in Cambodia and Thailand during Houston. This year I just returned from Sweet Adelines International competition in Seattle. Next year, we'll be in Australia for a wedding, and the following year I hope to be in Denver at SAI again. Guess I'll have to try for Paducah, although that's usually around the time of SAI Regional competition. Des Moines, here I come!

I really cant complain about not being in Houston, because I was lucky enough to be taken by DH last year. However it does mean that I know what I am missing :-( I have had a busy weekend like many ,helping sort halloween costumes, and babysitting so that the big girls and boys could go to a party. I am recovering with a quiet day today. I am looking forward to see what Bridget comes up with for us this week :-) Thanks Bridget!!
