Who supports/ helps you with your quilting?

Who is YOUR CHEERLEADER... the person who supports your efforts even passively? I always thought my husband tolerates my quilting until I heard him brag about a recent project to his best bud. He even said.... " Yeah she is kind of nuts over this quilting stuff... I hope someday I get a quilt. " I never realized he actually took an interest.

So who in your family or amoung your friends loves your quilts? quilting...even when parts get scattered though the house?

My whole family is very supportive. They've been calling my work "art" for a long time. Bless their hearts!

My husband is my biggest supporter! Once, years ago, when I tried to keep the cost down on a project and was considering buying a "cheaper" fabric, he told me it did not make sense to use "cheaper" on something that I was going to spend so much time on, and something that came from the heart. I did make him a lap quilt around 10 years ago, and he gets a little possessive of it when he finds me snuggled in it. "You've got my quilt!" he will say. One of the first things he did when we moved, was to help me get my quilt studio up and running. He suprised me and brought home a wonderful utility rack system that he set up in the sliding doors closet for storing all of my fabric. Then bought an inexpensive 3' x 6' book shelf for my quilt books, short fabric bolts and such. But, the best thing is, I do not have to "sneak" fabric into the house, like some of my friends have to do. He's well aware of the quilting process and what it takes to "create!" I think I'll keep him!!!

I'm my own supporter! I live alone (although my cat does help with the quilts) and nobody else in my family is at all interested in quilting. That doesn't matter - I quilt to please myself and nobody else!

My entire family supports and encourages me, but like a lot of you my husband is my biggest supporter. He has excellent color sense so I usually take him with me to select fabrics. It's not unusual to have him spirited away by others to ask his opinion. The day I overheard him tell an inquiring lady that he didn't think she "needed to introduce a new element" I realized that he had turned a corner on a road I wasn't even traveling!

My dear husband knows I live to quilt and never says anything about what I spend on fabric and for that I am grateful. He also cleans and cooks so I can spend time doing what I love. I think he was as proud as I when we saw my quilt on TQS.

Ha ha! Charae, what a great story!

I also have a very supportive and BIG family. Everyone wants a quilt!! I'll certainly never run out of appreciative people to give them too. Too bad I'm so slow :-(

My husband is definitely my biggest supporter. He is happy that I have found something that I enjoy doing and feel passionate about (especially now that our youngest is in university and it is just the two of us at home most of the year.) My husband is always encouraging me. Whenever we travel he always asks if there are any quilt stores in each place we pass and is more than willing to wait while I browse.

Thank you kindly! I do go to a very small group here in the neighborhood that we call "Stitcher's Corner," and it includes scrapbookers as well as all kinds of needleworkers and quilters. They're always very complimentary of any of my projects that I show them. But honestly, I quilt because I enjoy it and it doesn't matter a bit to me if anybody else appreciates it or not, although it's certainly an honor when they do. So when I decided to take the money I'd started saving for a new car in a few years and spend it instead to buy my Bernina 440, I didn't have to have anybody else to urge me on. I was quite capable of deciding that sewing was more important than driving any day!!

Definitely my husband. He does not question when I come home with fabric to add to the bulging stash. Sometimes he will ask me if I got all that I wanted to, "because it may not be there when you go back." He is physically disabled so can not help with the cooking and cleaning other than rarely comments when the house is not clean or a meal is late (luckily hot-dogs are his favorite food).

And let me not forget my cats. After all, I am "Cat Approved Quilts."

Della, Debi, Brenda, and the TQS community.

My sons are not actively supporting what I do, but they accept it, because they see that it makes me happy and (as they they) 'it keeps mother out of trouble' (whatever do they mean???).

I'm like Carol D I'm my own critic and my own cheer leader. No one around me quilts. I've never taken a lesson and you will never know how much I appreciate all of you on TQS--I have learned so much from you, and been so inspired. Thank you all

As I am reading everyone's posts, I realize we have all forgotten a very wonderful group of supporters that we all have: TQS members! If we have a quilting problem, want to share some good news, or just want to vent, someone is there for us! And, not just anyone! Someone who shares our passion and cheers us on! Go TQS members!
