DID YOU READ THE COPY RIGHT ARTICLE IN MC CALLS

I posted on the McCalls website about the copyright article, and I received a reply that they are going to allow the author of the aritcle to do a short follow up for the November /December Issue. Will be interesting to see what is said then.

Granted, as complex as copyrights are, they can't be covered in a short article in a magazine, but giving out false information about copyrights doesn't help people to understand them better.

I hope you'll give us an overview of the follow up. It's very hard to get that magazine in this country.

I have emailed McCall's concerning the article and only gotten a canned response. The article is awful.

I have deconstructed the article here:
        http://www.tabberone.com/Trademarks/...ompanies.shtml

None of the major pattern companies hold any copyrights on their individual patterns. That is because patterns are not generally copyrightable. And if they were, the copyright would not extend to the item made from the pattern. That issue was settled in 1879 by the US Supreme Court.

If you have lawfully acquired the pattern any item you make from the pattern belongs to you to do with as you wish. You may not claim that the item was invented or designed by you but you are free to sell it or give it away as you wish.

love the site. Are you raking nominations for other companies that could do with a listing?
