What STYLE / PATTERN IS POPULAR WHERE YOU LIVE???
What STYLE / PATTERN IS POPULAR WHERE YOU LIVE???
I live in rural mid Michigan and over the years I have watch patterns / style of quilt come in go in the guilds/ shows/ groups I belong to. I thought that the same patterns were popular across the country. But earlier this year I went to an out of state quilt show (my first) and I found out that all the areas I visited had different style of qults and different patterns that were popular in the region.
So I am asking everyone to post information:
What state/ country / region do you live in?
What patterns/ type of qults is everyone making?
What colors or fabric lines are popular where you live?
What are the popular sources for the qult patterns?
What are the popular quilt techniques/ classes/ workshops that influence the quilts in your region.
What pattern or style of quilting in known to come from your region? ( What patterns /styles are popular in the antique quilts in your area?)
Are there any well know quilters living near by where you live?
Any other information that you want to post about your area/ quilt styles/ pattern/ techniques feel free to add to the questions? I will post about region when there are post from others.

Well, I live in NW Georgia but I don't know many other quilters. Of those I do know, all sorts of quilting is represented. There doesn't seem to be any predominate style. I've seen red work, very traditional, very arty, hand quilting, free-motion, Thimbleberries types of fabric, hand-dyes, batiks --- we're a widely diverse bunch! In my immediate area, we have no close fabric shops at all so many of us buy online, so lots of different fabrics are chosen.

What state/ country / region do you live in? Mid Michigan 70 miles north of Detroit
What patterns/ type of qults is everyone making?
North Woods, Country, Cabin quilts and Traditional is still strong with most of the area quilters. But I am seeing more contemporary colors being used. We live in an area with 6 or 8 quilt shops within an hours drive ... several which stay open on Sunday. Two are strongly county / traditional in fabric styles the rest are more contemporay each with their own specialties. I think the trends in quilting is finally becoming more contemporary at least color and fabric wise.
What colors or fabric lines are popular where you live?
Batiks and Moda are queen around here.
What are the popular sources for the qult patterns?
Most of the ladies I know buy patterns at the LQS ... only a few make patterns from magazine. ( I think it is an economy thing as they are all older EXPERIENCED long time quilters) The majority complain the magazine patterns are tooooooo inaccurate.
There is a huge selection of patterns... mostly traditional being done...
What are the popular quilt techniques/ classes/ workshops that influence the quilts in your region.
MOST LADIES I know take classes at the LQS ... the classes are mosly in advance / difficult techniques. The ladies who take the basic classes tend to quilt on their own after they took some of the beginner classes then come back to learn applique and difficult patterns. Mystery classes tend to be popular mosly to get a night away from the family, but Kay our local instructor comes up with some great projects.
What pattern or style of quilting in known to come from your region? ( What patterns /styles are popular in the antique quilts in your area?)
A lot of the ladies around here are making reproduction of Mary Scherra's quilts (a legionary local quilter)
Are there any well know quilters living near by where you live?
I have taken classes from Ami Simms, Sue Holly and Kay Nichols. All who have written books and are national teachers. One of my favorite quilters is Debra Danko who makes huge floral banners on commision.
Any other information that you want to post about your area/ quilt styles/ pattern/ techniques feel free to add to the questions? I will post about region when there are post from others.
