    Quilting for Prisoners

Hi. I am a quilter and a religious volunteer at a men's prison. I recently approached the warden about doing a quilting class for the inmates. the warden's response was very positive so now I need to come up with a plan. Can you tell I leaped before I looked? Does anyone know of any quilting programs that have been conducted in prisons? I'd be very grateful for any information.

What a cool idea! I would think it might require a lot of thought and planning. Good luck with that. Cheers.

I was going, with a nun I know from my kids grade school days, to the woman's prison here in Cleveland to teach them to sew. I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but in my limited experience there was an awful lot of impediments to our going and sewing on our prearranged day. Several months ago we had to stop all together because our contact there had changed and the new person had no interest in our coming. We were told they needed the room for something else. It was such a shame because the ladies really looked forward to it and were learning a useful, calming and creative skill in addition to patience. It seems they would rather let people just sit around bored.
