Quilt Show Season is upon us

How many quilt shows do you go to each spring ?
    Each fall?

Do you only go to the local quilt shows or do you travel quiet a ways ( over 100 miles ) to see a quilt show?

Do you ever go to the big national events ???

How many people come to your own guilds show?

Do you go alone? Or do you go in a group?

Where do you find information about your quilt show?

As a promoter ( in charge of advertising for the next show) for our own quilt show I am always interested in how many and what criteria people use to select the shows they go to.

I go to one show every year (Festival of Quilts, in August, in Birmingham, UK). It's a big show by European standards, and I always meet with some of my quilting friends, and it's a good opportunity to do a few workshops with teachers from other countries.

I drive 450 miles each way to Road to California each January. I drive 8 miles to Tucson's local show each January (sometimes twice) if it's not the same weekend as Road2CA. I drive 110 miles each way each March to the AZ State guild's show in Phoenix/Mesa every March.

Last year was the first time I took Amtrak to CA (450 miles each way for only $38 each way) to see Long Beach. I'll probably try to go each year for that too. Road2CA and Long Beach are the only National shows I've seen. Oh, I saw NQA in CA 15 years ago... Does NQA still move each year?

Most of the time we're going with relatives - 3 or 5 of us. I love talking about the quilts with Mom, my sisters, and Eddie. I also love seeing shows with less experienced people to see their sense of wonder and awe - it's usually different than mine. Almost always though, I like some personal, alone time to walk the show by myself.

I was the Treasurer of the AZ State guild for a few years - I think in the late 90's we were getting 4,000 visitors. I'd guess Tucson gets more than 1,000 but less than 5,000... I don't know if there's anyone on TQS from the Tucson guild that could give you better numbers.

The internet - I get all my information about quilt shows, both local and national, from the internet, specifically the guild or show's web site.

I just went to my first quilt show this past January and it was Road to California. I live about 45 minutes from Ontario so it's just a hop skip and a jump for me. Now that I've been to R2Cali I'm addicted. I don't know how many I'll be able to go to though because of work and all.

I usually go to Road to CA, South Bay Quilt Guild Show, Friendship Square Guild Show, Citrus Belt Quilt Guild Show, and Los Angeles County Guild Show (some of these shows are every other year). These shows are from two miles to around 60 miles from where I live--that's about my mileage limit these days. I'm not sure of the attendance. I usually go to shows that start on a Friday--that's my preferred day. I find I usually won't get out on a Saturday unless the show is close to home.

I live in mid MI so every weekend I look up where the quilt shows are in the MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY QUILT MUSEUM events / newsletter page and pick a couple of local area shows to go to.

I have never been to the larger or out of state quilt shows.... but I hope to go to the state wide (MI QUILT NETWORK) quilt show this year.

I have been NOVI SEWING EXPO several times... but not enough quilts displayed as it is mostly sewing... which is a scream to me as I always see quilt shop vendors and very little of the other type of sewing vendors there. You can try out any type of sewing machine you are thinking of buying.
