What is the best size for a baby quilt? toddler quilt?
I am having a conversation/ argument with my DD. Apparently she does not like the sizes of baby quilts I have been making. She says the infant ones were too small since she needed quilts that she could throw over the baby seat when the weather was cold. The ones I made were usually meant to swaddle the baby.
Upshot is... What are the BEST sizes for a baby? For a toddler... both the drag along behind me kiddy quilt and the more formal bed/ crib sizes.
Your input and information would be greatly appreciated.

For those Yanks who aren't as familiar as we should be with the metric system, here are Jill's sizes in inches:
Blankets Size: 150 x 120cm = 60” x 47”
Cot Comforter Size: 120 x 130 cm = 47” x 52”
Cot Quilt Cover Size: 120 x 130 cm = 47” x 52”
Sheets Size: 150 x 160 cm = 60” x 63”
Pillowcase Size: 42 x 61cm = 16.5” x 24”

If your DD doesn't like the sizes you are making, ask her what size she wants, and tell her to be specific, not just wide enough for this and long enough for that, but 36 by 45 (or what ever measurement she wants it) and design a quilt that size.
Change the size of the blocks you are using, add another row, add sashing, add or subtract borders. There are a number of things you can do to change the size of a quilt, to make it any size you want.
Charts with quilt sizes are just a GUIDELINE, not set in stone, so make the quilts the size you want or need.
I think a 60 x 60 quilt for a baby or toddler is way overkill. As much as we might like the quilt to last them a lifetime, making a quilt 5 ft by 5 ft is, in my opinion too large. Besides, if you make them a small quilt for when they are born, then you can make them another larger quilt as they grow, and perhaps even get them to help with making the quilt, or at least picking out fabric for it. And that would be more special to them as they grow up.

We finally decided 48-52 x 48-52 is ideal. Most of the girls use this side quilt to cover the baby carriers to and from the car. WINTERS HERE IN MI can be BRUTAL!!!
The larger ( 50in x 50) quilts also seem suitable for toddlers. What we are finding is my 2 year old grandson only keeps a moderate size quilt on. If it is full size toddler bed/ twin bed size he kicks them off ( I think they are too heavy on him.) The smaller ones stay on him better through the night. This seems to hold true for his cousins and the other kids we have given blankets too.

If your grandson is kicking off his blankets/quilts in his sleep, how about a sleeping bag with armholes/sleeves? I made a couple for my daughter when she was a toddler and they were great, because no matter how much they wriggle in the night they don't become uncovered and get cold, - and wake up everyone else
