    Store purchased quilts

I only have one quilt on a bed in my house - it was a gift from a dear friend. we handle this quilt very carefully so I am sure it will be fine. That said, I was talking to a famous quilter and she purchases pre-made quilts for beds - She wouldn't put her work on beds - True confessions - have any of you purchased these quilts and if so for who and where......?

Yes, while in Tennessee I bought one; before I knew what to look for in a good quilt. I still use it only because I have not finished one to use for my bed.

That is what I had on our bed until about 1 1/2 years ago when I finished a quilt for my husband.
Had to say I was making it for him, or in my head it would have probably never gotten done. Make quilts for other people. Have even had several quilts longarm quilted for myself - but - those are the ones waiting to have their bindings applied. ops:

I have a quilt on every bed, all made by me. I do have one that I purchased years ago before I made anything larger than a baby quilt. It has lasted ok, but so have all of mine. I made them to use, not to look at!

I have quilts on my beds that I've made or my late mother made.
I'm for using these works of arts for their intended purpose- beauty on the bed.
That said, I don't use the one I got made entirely by my great-grandmothers hands- that's one for looking at, altho when it was in my mother's house, she put it on the bed and allowed grandkids to use it.
And it is still in great shape.

We purchased a quilt for my husband's daughter. When she moves into her own home, I will make her one, until then, the pretty "homemade in China" quilt will have to do.

I have a quilt in every room on the wall but I don't have any on beds. Is that what quilts are for?

My DIL gave me a northwoodsy small quilt (purchased) that I continue to use as a throw on the couch in the family room. Wouldn't wanr hurt feelings. Grandkids all have quilts for their beds from Grandma but Grandma has no quilts done for her beds. BOM will definitely go on a bed. Not sure if it will be my bed or the yellow extra bedroom bed.

The quilt on our king size bed is a purchased one. I saw it in a catalog and liked it so much I had to have it. This year I am making one to replace it. I started making a selvage quilt and my husband said it was the prettiest quilt he had ever seen so it's going to be a king size. It's the biggest quilt I've ever made!

I confess that I have a store bought handquilted quilt on my bed and I'm not ashamed of that. It was purchased as a temporary bed cover, after I tired of the one I had, until I decided how I wanted to redecorate my bedroom. I'm still undecided.

So far, all of the quilts that I have made were given away to family, friends, or charity. My TQS 2009 BOM is the first quilt that I've begun just for myself, but the colors are a little too feminine for my master bedroom. Also, after all of the work I put into it, I'm not sure I want my husband sitting on it.

I've seen lots of beautiful quilts on display in furniture stores. So, I make mental notes of what I liked about them to use as inspiration for future quilt projects. Recently, I was also inspired by some gorgeous armchairs upholstered in quilts.

I have a handmade quilt on the bed in my grandkid's playroom, but the guest room has a comforter and the master bdrm has a purchased quilt. We also purchased 2 lap size quilts on a trip through northern California 10 years ago, gave one to our son, and are still using the other one in the family room. My DH purchased a quilt once (hand quilted with a store bought look) for $100 thinking it was a good price and I'm using it to pad the rock hearth on the fireplace with the back side facing up. Once it got moved away from the corner and my grandson ended up with a knot on his head. It has a tear now and is faded where it's close to the window. I had handmade quilts on all of the beds when my kids lived at home and plan on using the 2009 BOM on the master bed when it's finished.

I bought 4 quilts a few years ago in a small town in Virginia at a big gun and craft fair....didn't buy any guns but yes to the quilts. They weren't really high quality, but 2 were whole clothe beauties and I gave them to my DD's that year for Christmas. They love them. The other 2 have slowly gravitated into an armoire for storage. The Grandkids use them to wrap up in to watch TV.
I keep the hand made quilts that my MIL has made over the years on a quilt rack in our guest room. One is always on the Guest bed and I change them periodically. They are all very special to me.

The first time I saw one of the "from China" quilts, I ran my hands over it and thought "OH my, They left some of the basting stitches in." Nope!!! That was the quilting. Talk about your toe catchers. The China quilts have improved some since then.

I have one of my own quilts that is on the guest room bed. It is made with autograph blocks and every one who sleeps under it signs it. One Christmas when we had 13 family members sleeping in various parts of the house, one of my nieces asked if she could sleep under one of my other quilts. We went to my studio and together found a quilt I had made for each of my family members to sleep under for the next three nights. A truly memorable Christmas for me. I wish I had thought of this when Ricky was collecting Christmas stories. Betty Ann

No, I don't have any store bought quilts on any of my beds, but I am not opposed to them if you see one you like. Some of my beds do have quilts I have made and I have several quilts around for people to use as throws. I also have several quilts on walls, hanging over the loft railing, etc. There are some quilts that will never be on a bed (like the 2009 BOM) - to me that will remain as my masterpiece and I do not want to subject it to washing.

I'm with Miles, I thought quilts were for walls. Hehehe. No, seriously, I have made one bed quilt top for my youngest that my lovely DIL is currently quilting on her long arm (thank you OriNebula). The quilt--if you can call it that--on my bed is purchased. Sew Happy!
