Couldn't resist commenting when I saw your post. I might just re-read that series because it was eons ago.

Barbara, a swift recovery to you!! You'll have to get off those meds soon, you had a date with John Flynn! A good excuse for a kit if ever there was one. 8)

Thank you Amoret! John will have to wait. The doctor told me today it will be a couple of months and she is increasing my dosage. But she will have me well in time for my Quilt Seminar at Sea in Feb. I will work on my Ohio stars and do the buttonhole stitch on my wool applique BOM. All the cutting is done which is good until my body adjusts to the meds.

One night whilst sitting around a camp fire she was mending a shirt. Her grandson, Garion, asked why she did it. She tore the shirt and ran her finger up the tear and it mended. She then tore the shirt again and began sewing. “Just because I can,” was her answer.!!! I think you would enjoy any of his series. I think the first was "The Belgariad" and has five books, then came "The Malloreon" another five books, and then "The Ellenium" which has three books (Actually, I think this is my favorite).
The Elenium Series: Originally came out in 1998 in hard back)
Book 1: The Diamond Throne
Book 2: The Ruby Knight
Book 3: The Sapphire Rose
I would think you could get them at your local library or Amazon has this series (all three books) in one book for $12.89.
I actually read The Elenium series first and maybe that is why it is my favorite:
Here's a snippet of The Diamond Throne
"Slowly, Sparhawk raised his eyes to his Queen. She was beautiful. There was almost luminous perfection about her countenance. Her pale blond hair was long and loosely framed her face. She wore her state robes and the heavy gold crown of Elenia. Her slender hands lay upon the arms of her throne, and her eyes were closed. But now she was locked in the semblance of death, embedded in a transparent crystal hexahedron, like some bug frozen in clear amber.
Then her heard and felt it, a regular thudding sound, growing louder by the moment as it announced to any who might enter the throne room that her heart was still beating.
Sparhawk sand to one knee in a move of profound respect, his eyes suddenly filling with tears. "I am here now, Ehlana," he murmured. "Somehow, I'll make everything right again."
The heart beat grew louder, almost as if she had heard.
