    TQS Mini groups

Have the TQS membership here ever started any on-line mini-groups?

The times I've been involved with these groups I have found them very creatively stimulating and just good fun. So I wondered if there were any here?

Since it doesn't seem that there are any, is this something people might be interested in doing?

I'm just looking for an on-line group of people who want to set some goals for doing common projects or learning new techniques. A group I was involved in once long ago was my introduction into doing sunpainting on fabric. It was the beginning of my obsession with dyeing. I never would have tried the technique on my own but the group gave me the impetus to try.

Just curious if there are others interested in this kind of thing or if everyone has already got their quota of groups and projects.

      Teresa,
What a great idea! I'd be interested in an applique mini group. Maybe focusing on a single project, may not. Anyone else?

I love applique and I have a ton of hand dyes I really need to use, so I'd be interested in that!

Well, let's see what we'd need.

Some place for people to touch base post information, questions, projects, etc. It would be good if we could post videos if we got that into it, for various techniques or people showing off their work. Communication and the ability to share things like pictures of what we have done or if we needed help with a problem. Encouragement and cheerleading would be important as well.

The Quilt Show certainly has all the necessary framework for that on a much larger scale. The Quilt Show is kind of like a 'maxi' group.

Is there a current forum section that would work so we wouldn't have to ask for another one to be created?

I'm sure there are people here who have a lot more experience than I do with mini groups who can say a lot more about what's needed.

I'd suggest that the BOM has become a mini-group of sorts, with some significant friendships resulting. Margo has of course, contributed tons of instruction and support as have many others when they discover aids/hints/construction variabilities. Is that a word? ha

Of course all of that builds on what Sue offers with the patterns!

Besides using a section of the Forum, any group of members can always use one of the chat rooms.

Lorchen - you are reading my mind - just like any mini group, time could be scheduled for chat - that aspect of the site is TOTALLY unused - also show and tell could be a place where photos are posted - I think we have the bones for it - we just need to get organized - so what would the first group be?OH - yes and it is on the radar to get block of the month as a one stop destination - ssshhhhh - you didn't hear it from me

Since Judymc suggested applique, perhaps that could be a first project, but I'm open to anything. My main desire is to have support and be encouraged to try new techniques.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to applique. I have done fused stuff and got so far as one of the stars on the first BOM. I've watched all that Alex and Ricky and various guests have instructed and can't seem to get into actually doing it. I know I would lurk around the edges of an applique group. That being said, I have this secret desire to try dyeing but have no clue how to start. I know there is a forum topic about it but everyone posting there already has a knowledge base. If enough people would be interested, I would love to learn and experiment along with others who are also new to it. My 2 cents. Gloria wondering what happened to summer.

Gloria - I'm with you. I also have a desire to learn to dye fabric. Anyone else out there? Mary in still summer MS.

I'm open to anything that would teach. I do, however, suggest a shorter time period than the current BOM. Plain old-fashioned blocks with emphasis on design, color and value. I'm also intrigued by fabric painting - especially after watching Grandmother's Legacy many times (look in Articles). If not for this application, then maybe a future show.
