    New Years Resolutions

I can't find it, but somewhere we talked about our resolutions, I think it was last January.

I keep thinking about whether I've lived up to what I hoped.

I wanted to make several Project Linus quilts and did.

I wanted to use my stash and I have. At least 3 whole projects from only my stash.

I wanted to walk my dog every day and except for when I was away at quilt retreats, I did!

I wanted to learn to ride my daughter's horse since she's not riding much anymore and I have. Such fun and unlike anything I ever immagined I'd be doing!

For this next year I want to repeat the same things and add a few.

I hope to finally take off those last stubborn 20 pounds.

I want to make a Rhapsody quilt and a neutral king-sized quilt for our bed (something for us for a change.)

I want to continue to learn the long-arm and maybe take a class.

I want to really clean out, sort, organize and discard so much of the clutter that has accumulated in the 17 years we've lived in this house, now that the kids are just about grown and gone.

Anyone else thinking this way now that December has rolled around and another year has passed? Nancy in BRRRR western NY

I, too, did a lot of "decluttering" when the last chick flew the coop. I would like to do more but haven't convinced them to take all their stuff with them.

The end of 2008 is going to be here before we know it and so I am starting to look at what I accomplished in 2008 and what I want to accomplish in 2009. In 2008 I got most of the house interior painted, did some major de-cluttering, made not 1 but 2 project for Alheizmer’s Auction, presented my son with his quilt on Thanksgiving, within an hour of completing the quilt for my co-worker for her son, and have eight of my 12 BOM’s completed, and most important I lost over 40 pounds and I am on a regular exercise program. It’s not everything I planned to do but I am happy with what I did accomplish.

Now for 2009 I will finish painting the interior of my house, finish de-cluttering (which means what got moved to the basement gets pushed on out the back door), and lose another 20 pounds. My planned quilt projects, which are subject to change, include; 1) completing BOM quilt top and hand quilting it; 2) Piecing the 2009 BOM; 3) Quilt for my husband; 4) Wholetop Quilt for my Daughter; 5) Lilly Rosenberry Quilt; 6) Replicating Conventional Tulip quilt made by my husband’s Granny Zoe; and 7) Alheizmer quilt. New techniques I want to accomplish in 2009 are machine quilting and hand quilting with a lap hoop and Aunt Becky (which I wrapped and they are waiting under the tree).

2009 is going to be the Year of the Quilt...finishing those pesky tops I have and finding homes for all those blocks I have made.
It is time to turn tops into quilts that can be used. Stop talking about quilting and actually DOING quilting.

I always put on my list eat healthy and more exercise...I do try.
But I need to rethink my approach. Eating health and exercise gives me more energy to do the quilting!!

My surroundings and need some tweaking...which will happen.

At this point in time, my only charity committment is to make stockings for a group home. In the past years, I done lap quilts for seniors, children, infants and assorted other needs. I am not going to over extend this year. To be honest, I am finding few places which will accept handmade goods. They all want new things. After receiving permission to do lap quilts for seniors...our local nursing home didn't want to accept them because they were 'handmade'.
We have done this project for years...so it is not like receiving the lap quilts were a surprise. Sadly...I doubt they used them...we have no idea what happened to them. A friend who volunteers on the weekends never saw one being used. I suspect they didn't want to send them to the laundry. I guess that experience kind of...soured me. The thing is...I checked several times with the Social Worker during the year to make sure they still wanted the quilts...and she even gave me a number of patients in need.

Last year I commented (on the TQS thread that Nancy referred to) that I wanted to share my love of quilting with someone and teach them to quilt. I feel good about what I have done toward that goal here on TQS with the 2008 BOM!

Next year, I will continue encouraging quilters, especially the new ones, with the 2009 BOM, but I've got to tell you that I feel like the group effort gives me back as much as I give! Ya gotta love it!
                A win/win situation for everyone!

I did not know at this time last year that I would have a Handi-Quilter16, so this year I want to make more of an effort to learn to use it....to justify the purchase. That means making and finishing more quilts and I'll try to use up some of my stash instead of purchasing fabric for every project.

I cannot remember my resolutions for last year, (they are probably here some where but don't look them up for me please) but I do know what in general I wanted to accomplish and I think I have made a lot of progress. I wanted to be more creative and do more art quilting and that I have done. I wanted to finish things and I have done that, too. Have I met every goal and finished every project, no way but I feel good about where I am at. And I am not apologizing for the unfinished projects any more (see my blog about starting and finishing) I have done a lot in the eleven years that I have been a "quilter" and I refuse to put myself down anymore.(Maybe that is my '09 resolution)

LOL  I am not a planner by nature, so I have NO idea YET what my goals for next year are! I have 20 days+ to figure out my resolutions.... ok, in all honesty, I'll probably wait until News Years Eve to even think about it! Mary Kay

Only two-oops! Three things on my list:
                        1. Quilt and gift the monster bargello to DS#1. He's officially engaged now and it'll be a great wedding gift.
                        2. Make a quilt with carousel horses for my friend Terry.
                        3. Use the new recumbent stationary bicycle at least every other day.

DEFINITELY to get more quilting done, use more of my stash, and lose at least 20 lbs.
