I cancelled subsription to all my QUILT MAGAZINES

    I am fed up....

I am allowing all / most my magazines subsciption expire. ... (still considering fons and porters because they usually have different old patterns.) I have looked through the last 2 years of magazines and found that I have only copied for my files 30 patterns to save out of 36 magazines. The rest of the quilts patterns are re-hashes of standard old blocks... ( Ohio Star/ SawTooth Star / snowball ) just done in the FLAVOR OF THE MOMENT FABRIC.

I THINK I HAVE BECOME JADED IN MY TASTES. I love quilting but I am not being expired by the magazines. I am getting tired of paying for ads for things I neither need or will ever buy.

I will be saving money and room in my house by only buying those magazines that have techniques I need to learn OR have something novel in them.

THANKS FOR LISTENING TO MY RANTS. ... again.

I have let all of my subscriptions expire with the exception of AQS. I keep that one because I receive a discount at JoAnn's (good for tools and batting).
I will say...I do look at them bookstore. Fons and Porter wrap theirs...which when you think about it is a good marketing method.

But when I look at photos in past magazines...I have noticed that most of them are known patterns using new fabrics. Or a block that has been set differently or using a different sashing or border.
Perhaps the saying 'what is old is new again' (but with different fabric!!) would be appropriate.

I guess...I have enough books, patterns and magazines to last a lifetime or two. When I go up to my sewing room...can always pull a project to work on from my supply.

I too have decided to let some of my magazines lapse. I have enough squirreled away to last a lifetime and I'm not really using them. I also have some really great books on the shelf. Everytime I look at things on TQS I get inspired and realize I probably have a pattern for that in a book or magazine. Time to save on magazines and spend on fabric! Carolyn

I still like looking through magazines, but I agree most are pretty boring now. I guess this shows that magazines will go the way that newspapers are going--away. There will be no magazines or newspapers someday in the future I guess. I understand it, but it's still kind of sad. I just hope there will still be books!

It's funny cause I feel so excited when I see that the mail contains a quilting magazine and then sort of let down once I read it. I too, have let most of my subscriptions lapse. I have really gotten turned off by F & P. Their magazine seems to be an ad for their products.

Lately, I'm getting Quilters World. Not sure why, but when I checked out a few at the newstand, it seemed to have the best ideas.

I too, keep most of the magazines I get and try to go back through them every once in a while. I might have a need for a project that I didn't notice the first time.

I'm wondering about all the patterns I see at the LQS. Do you all buy many patterns anymore? I see so many and few of them interest me. I think these days, the really new and innovative stuff is what comes in books. Of course, there's no shortage of those either....

I still get AQS magazine and purchase some magazine on an issue by issue basis. Sometimes one get inspiration from the an unexpected issue.

My Christmas is EQ6. Hopefully, with AQS, TQS and EQ6, my creative IQ will spark ASAP!!

            Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.

I think I have been a magazine junkie since "Weekly Reader" and "Highlights for Children"! I still find it relaxing to page through a magazine in the evening when I don't have the energy to sew. (Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork and Quilting is the favorite.) And I guess I will be one of the last to give up the newspaper--can't eat breakfast without it--another habit from childhood!

I enjoy looking at and reading all of my quilting magazines, I subscribe to eight or nine of them. I love seeing others' quilts. Reading one of these magazines rejuvenates me! I like to figure out how they've made something before I take a look at the instructions.

Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting is my favorite. Once I've removed what I want to keep I pass them along to three friends who cannot afford to subscribe. I think I would keep subscribing just to give the magazines to them, they appreciate it so much!

The only one I'm keeping is Mark Lipinski's. I read almost all of the articles. Not a lot of patterns, but someone observed that Mark's magazine is a quilter's mag while most of the others are quilting mags.
