HELP HOW do you clean your irons

HOW do you clean your iron? I have got some brown stuff on my new B&D classic iron and it is transferring to other fabrics.

I am not sure what the brown stuff is but I have recently done a project with steam a seam and I always use starch. I had used the craft iron for the steam a seam but I am thinking some residue got on my ironing cover without me knowing it.

I've used Sharon Shamber's method with the magic erasers. It worked great for getting off the starchy residue. I also accidentally ironed part of my card table and it got all that plastic goop off too. It is on the free video lesson part of her site. Basically, wet the eraser and put it on a towel, use your iron either hot or cold and iron the eraser til clean. If using it hot you may need to wet the eraser again. It didn't take me 3 min to clean mine. COOL!! Sandi in wet rainy FL

I get the Rowenta iron cleaner (don't have a Rowenta iron) from JoAnn's when the notions wall is on sale or with my 40% off coupon. It is great!! Both my dd and I love it!! It is about $13 regular price.

It is in a box and includes the cleaner in a tube, a white cloth and a green cloth.

Take their advice and don't wash that green cloth in the box with anything else! It bleeds like nothing you've ever seen. :wink:

Brown paper bag and salt, works for me. Set the iron on cotton and iron across the line of salt back and forth. It's abrasive enough to work. Good luck Anna.

I used Dritz Iron Off the other day and it worked for me. I was in the middle of ironing. I just stopped a minute, rubbed it on a hot iron, wiped it off (made sure it was off several times before I went back to ironing on the good stuff) I didn't have any problems.

I use used fabric softner sheets. Just run hot iron over the sheet a few times and it is gone.

I managed to "throw" my iron at the carpet awhile back. Actually I think the iron jumped off the board. Dritz Iron Off cleaned the melted carpet off very quickly and easily. Fortunately, the carpet looked fine. I always keep Dritz Iron Off on hand. Good luck!

My weekly quilting buddy did that to my iron and carpet, too! :roll: I just used wet paper towels on the hot iron.
