Yes, Cincinnati is still feeling the effects of Ike. I was planning on spending Sunday in my sewing room, but the power went out about 2 pm. It came back in my neighborhood yesterday afternoon, but many are still without power. The grocery store was open today, but they had no meat, no eggs, no dairy except for a bit of milk, and nothing frozen. We had a tree down at the edge of our yard, but no other damage, fortunately. I don't know how those of you who live along the coasts put up with this year after year! The beauty of the ocean must make up for it (no, the Ohio River can't compete with that!) Blessings to you all!

We are 2o minutes from Cincy. We have electric now but our next door neighbor next door to us may not have electric till Sat. We have a community freezer!
We lost afew trees and had alot of fallen tree debre,a windshield busted. Everyone in the neighbor hood has pitched in to help each other with clean up.
I never thought a hurricane storm could reach so far. Had about 58 mile winds here,no rain just high winds. We went through hurricane Wilma on vacation in Mexico with 120 mile winds so this felt like the calming of that storm.
"Hurricanes are scarry either way" 120 or 58 mile winds. When it started out I'm like Oh No I know this all to well, Not good. I hope that all that have been effected by IKE are safe and getting things back to the norm.
I don't know how people live in these hurricane regions at all either, although I do Love the Sun/heat.

I'd rather deal with hurricanes that I'm forewarned about than earthquakes and tornadoes that are always a big surprize. We always have time to get the hell out of town!

got the following email from Lynn sent last evening:

we weathered IKE well. just no internet yet. only lost power for 18 hours. I'm at DH office today reading my 203 emails............and answering a few.

Am in TQS withdrawl, big time tho! But have gotten much more quilting done!
Thank God she came thru safe, can't wait to see her back on the board. Any news from Wren?

I have been worrying about Lynn since the beginnings of Ike. Thank the Lord that she is okay. (I was ready to resort to calling her brother in law tomorrow if we hadn't heard from her) Ike was awful and am so glad that all of my friends are safe and the damage was not terrible for them. Too many tragedies. But God is Good, All the time , All the time God is good. Ann

Yeah I was thinking I was going to call an uncle I haven't talk to in decades who lives in Spring TX to see if he knew anything about Lynn's area. So glad to hear she's OK.

I've been concerned about Karen (Wren) too. She said Ike was going to pass right over their zipcode area. According to the power co report online their power in that zipccode is predicted to come back on Monday 22nd. So hopefully it is only no power and not worse for them.

Thank you Florence for the up-date.I've been worried about Lynn and was thinking of sending her an e-mail but I think 203 is quite enough! Just glad to know she's alright. Julie

Well, the missing has returned! Thanks for all your concerns during IKE. I'm surprisedd I only had 57 unread TQS forum entries to read! That doesn't seem like much. You guys must have been out of commission some too! ha

I'm still not on the internet at home but am at work today so have access. Between reading work emails, doing some training on-line for work, reading all my personal emails (finally) and now TQS forum, it's alot of computer time!

We survived quite well considering the damage of so many. The eye was actually about probably 40 miles east of us when it crossed over land. So not only were we a ways away, we were on the cleaner side of it so less rain afterward. Many, many, MANY of our neighbors (close by neighbors) lost fences, trees, and the boulevards here in SugarLand are a mess. We had lots of beautiful 25-30 year old trees that were just clearly 'blown over.' Shallow root systems, I suspect. Not sure what they are but not hurricaine proof. It will never look the same, but it was all man-made to begin with, and nature will have it's way every few years along the gulf coast. Or just about anywhere else, actually. Sometimes it's floods, or tornados, or earthquakes, or typhoons, or monsoons, - this was just OUR time. Not many lives lost, but sorry to say there were some. I'm sure all haven't even been found yet. Thousands of head of cattle were lost and many even yet today wandering around without hay or fresh water down near the gulf. They are slowly herding them back and providing feed and fresh water.

As for me, without internet, I finished my BOM, got all of them preshrunk, ironed, cut out the sashing, assembled it, and worked on a couple of other quilts, one being my grandson's transportation quilt which is machine applique.

I thought of all of you often - I learned to text message and eventually even learned how to get my email on my phone - so not all was lost!

I'm sure glad to be back on this forum, tho! I missed ALL of you!

Has anyone heard from Sue Garman? I heard the quilt shop near her house was pretty good after the storm. Mine is still without power!

Margo will probably tell you she got an email from Sue and all is well as can be expected with some damage. I'm sorry you lost some old trees. I always miss those. So glad to see you, I've been thinking about you so much and praying and hoping it was just a loss of power. Hope you get that sooner rather than later.
