    Hey to MI Quilters

I just want to give a HELLO to MI QUILTERS... Are you goint to the MQN show in Lansing this Sept 12 to 14th ..... Or are you going to Sew Expo in Novi ? I am hoping to go to both but wont know til later this month.

Ami Simms will have a display of her Alzheimer Quilts at Mi Quilt Network. I also heard the JNKS girls will have a display of their ART quilts. I just heard the JNKS lecture last week and those ladies are a hoot. If you get a chance to go to the lecture do so... you will be impressed with the simple ideas they RUN AMUCK with. .....

My guild is looking for NEW LOCAL MI quilt speakers .... Do you know of any you would recommend? We want to support local quilters/ teacher/ lectures in part because it has become too expensive to get lectures from out of state... so we have gone from 4 OUT OF STATE lectures down to only two a year. If you know of any quilt lectures you were impressed with can you post a note and tell me who and why? Thanks

Can't go to MQN but am hoping to get to Novi.

I'm available as a lecturer/teacher. If you're interested, I'll send you my info.

      Hi,
I'm planning for sure to go to the Lansing show - even invited an out-of-state cousin to come for a visit and go with me! Now I've re-read the page and does it really say that the fee to get in is so high (50)?? Have you attended in the past, LadyRags? Did I mis-read that? I tried to find a way to email my question to an organizer but wasn't successful.
The show in Novi is always great - but sometimes I have to tell myself to "sit down and sew!" rather than go drool over more future projects. Just cleaning out and reorganizing my sewing room recently (recently retired and cleaned out 10 years of "stashing") showed my just how much I've gotten from other shows but haven't gotten TO!

I would like to attend MQN. But I won't go because of the money. I will not be going to Novi, either.

I might get to Novi but not planning on the others. Sticking close to home until the paychecks start coming in.

I just noticed this topic. I'd love to go to Novi -- my guild meets the other weekend. I'll see if I can work it into my busy schedule! Thanks for the heads up.

I highly recommend Sue Holdaway-Heys as a speaker. She is out of Ann Arbor and makes the most amazing quilts. One of her quilts, "The Wishmaker," was just in QN or maybe Quilting Arts magazine. Her quilts also won Viewer's Choice at the Ann Arbor quilt show in July 2006 AND 2008.

                Here's Sue's site: http://www.sueholdaway-heys.com/

At least 5 years ago, I went to a quilt show in Lansing which I assume is the same one as this year (MQN). It was WONDERFUL, but I don't remember it being this expensive. I'm not paying any $50 just to get into a quilt show. Period.

I almost always go to the Sewing Expo in Novi. It is much more reasonably priced and there is plenty of qulty stuff to interest me.

One year I bought a sewing chair, other years Big Boards, cutting boards, etc. I always try to leave with one special purchase. I go early on Saturday, look at EVERYTHING and close the place down. I rarely go to classes, althoughI did a couple several years ago.

Where is the MQN fee listed... it must be in the catalog as I can never access PFD files. You are right $50 to view quilts is tooooooo much.... If you want to take a class you should take a class..... why charge every one for a class they may not be interested in. Oh well

I am planning to go to Novi Expo... I plan to get a hotel room for Friday / Saturday... Yeah

NOVI is one of the furthest western suburbs of Detroit... it is in Wayne County but just barely. Near Farmington and Farmington Hills... I think you can get there via I-275 or i-96. I will have to look on my map to be sure. I usually take i-23 south from the Flint area and it has been 20 years since I lived in Detroit... come to think of it I got lost last time I went to NOVI and end up in Ann Arbor so maybe.... SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS... HEE HEE ;=D

Come to Hadley next weekend... our quilt show is only $1.00

                        FYI -

I picked up a circular this weekend from a local quiltstore, and on the back it said that admission to MQN in lansing will be $10 per day -- not the $50 quoted here!

Thanks for all the info! $10 a day is so much more reasonable. I'm getting excited since my cousin arrives tomorrow.

I love the Novi show, too. MAYBE I can control myself and look for "just one" thing - I'm thinking maybe a portable sewing table.

Oh, totally off topic, but I found a brand new "dry iron!" No steam holes! Haven't tried it out yet but am hopeful! I'll try to find a more appropriate place to post!

$50 is the 4 day pass so you can go Thursday, Friday, Saturday and I think on Sunday too. It also include other events and is geared for the out of town MQN members who come from other parts of the state and attend all the events. Also staying at the hotel.

Daily Pass is just the $10 quoted above. They do not make it very clear in their web page.
