    Lorchen, great idea!

For music, I like a wide variety. Contemporary Christian, Country, 60's, 70's 80's. So I would like to take my XM radio.

For books, this is hard. Several years ago, I really enjoyed the Left Behind series. Lately, all I read is quilting books. Could I just take my lifetime collection of books?

Luxury item, I'll have to go with...this is really hard. I could say my quilting room on solar power. I like the labtop! I also like the RV idea...solor powered AC, an RV has everything...even a bed. I do like my creature comforts! I'll go with my dream quilting room on solor power.

    I'm not too picky...
    Happy Quilting,

Sorry... not into music ... but I would love books on discs.... as long as I could listen to them while I quilted on a sewing machine.... I am assuming we have electricity or we could not have the music... but if we had to do without electricity I would want a treadle sewing machine for sure.

Reading ... just my quilt books ...maybe a cookbook or two... I need help cooking the coconuts.
      Happy Quilting,

The CD I have been listening to lately is Debby Boone's "Reflections of Rosemary". Love it. For a book, surprise me with a good mystery or a handyman book so I can build a shack. Since I hand quilt I can get lots of quilting done.

What an interesting topic! Made me think a lot, but wound up depending on those of you with better imaginations than mine. For music: electric blues and Vanessa-Mae. But since a solar-powered laptop (thanks, MaryRinWI) is also on my list, I could listen to Pandora.com. If you're not familiar with it, go there! You pick your favorite tune or music style or musician, and they play that type of music. (And thanks to ipquilter for mentioning Nickleback, I wasn't familiar with the name, although I have heard it on the radio. I'm going to investigate further.)

And since I could get Kindle on my laptop (thanks for that idea, Lissette), I could read about anything I feel like at the moment. It would probably be mysteries and quilt books.

Thank goodness I didn't have to choose anything more specific about my music, books or the luxury item; I am so spoiled by my computer -- I can have it all!! Oh, and some Kaffe Fassett fabric

I forgot to mention --- I find it fascinating that no one mentioned a cell phone Must be a desire to have all the "toys" we enjoy so much, and be able to use them without interruption! To me, music, books, computer and quilt projects sound like a perfect island vacation!!!!!

On music I am with all those who say give me a radio - I listen to a very wide variety of music ranging from classical all the way to heavy metal and everythign in between. About the only music I don't like is hip-hop/rap and even there there are some songs I like. As for a book... do I have to pick just one??? My tastes are almost as varied - I love horror and suspence - Stephen King books, or Douglas Preston/Lincolin Child books are among my favorites, but I also love historical, romances, mysteries, true crime, etc. And of course I have to have my quilt books!!! I guess I would need a radio with very good reception and a private library on my island, lol.

For music, I'd like Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli and the Eagles. I listen to them over and over, depending on my mood.
My favorite book of all time is "The Far Pavilions" by MM Kaye. I think I've read it at least 6 times.
One luxury item-soap. I'm not happy if I'm not clean

                  Hmmm, CD compliation of:
                  50's & 60's oldies,
                  my favorite gospel music, and
                  my favorite Christmas music.
Wait maybe I'll try for a solar energy Ipod with all that and my favorite books, which would probably be James Herriott,on it. I laugh so hard when I read them I can't read them before bedtime.
AIR CONDITIONING or all bets are off!

Eileen, I think it's interesting that you are the only one who classes soap as a luxury. I remember when Germany was still split into two, and people in Poland and other Eastern European countries could not travel. The biggest treat for them was when I gave them good quality soap and shampoo as a little present when I visited. And a friend of mine who regularly goes to Africa always takes a whole bag full of pencil and colouring crayons for the local school.

I've just asked my younger son (27) what he would take to a desert island. He says he doesn't mind what music or what book, but his luxury item would be..................... his girlfriend! Aaaahhhh....
