Who is your favorite quilting teacher? I know it's too late to schedule someone really famous to teach at our guild next year, and besides, we're looking for someone less expensive, so who you would recommend to bring in as a quilt teacher?

Travel costs are a consideration, as well; we're in TN, so would probably not look for someone from the West Coast or New England, for example.

It's really tough thinking about a teacher who would be of interest to most of the guild, since we have such a diversity of members, who have so many personal preferences in techniques! (As I'm sure is the case for every other guild in the world!)

This is the link for our own Mickey Depree. She lives in Illinois and her work is impressive. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a TQS member come out to your guild to teach?!

    Best of luck!

How about searching in Tennessee, Mississippi and other surrounding states for members and then look at their work. If there is someone whose work you really like how about asking them if they would like to teach. I am not a professional quilt teacher but I do teach crafts and embroidery in our park and was a teacher in a "past" life. I don't live near TN but know that I would be thrilled and honored if someone said -come teach this or that and maybe do a trunk show at the same time- you never know you might find the new Alex Anderson or Ricky Tims out there who is yet too shy or timid to say I AM A TEACHER or I HAVE SOMETHING TO TEACH. Why does everyone have to be famous before they are asked to teach? We all start somewhere. Ann

What a great idea, Lissette! I love her stuff, it's so whimsical

She's high on my list; I'll check out her schedule and prices.

Ann, I think you're absolutely right--there are alot of really talented people on this site. If I was a workshop chairperson (been there, done that), I would seriously consider some of the "regular" people on this site.
