Making "Crumb" blocks meet Tom Russell from Katy,
This was the most wonderful tutorial on making these blocks ("crumb") from our scraps. I thought I would post it under a new topic so everyone could see it!
http://www.quiltville.com/crumbspf.html
We recently had Tom Russell from Katy Texas come and speak to our Applique Society and he showed some things he has done with scraps, very much like this. Said he doesn't throw ANYTHING away!
By the way, he does a great, funny, very interesting program if you are looking for someone to speak at your guild or bee. Here's a little info about him.

You are so lucky that you now have Tom living in your area....I am in Knoxville, where he moved from to TX. He left us with a hole in our hearts....Tom will inspire you to try new things and to do things out of your comfort zone. If you get a chance to take any of his classes , run , don't walk to sign up......We all miss him. Next time you see him , give him a big hug from his Wednesday friends. JOANN

Thank you so much for this posting. Recently, I have fallen in love with scrap quilts. For some reason, they always make me smile -- they are just happy looking quilts.
I've been experimenting with all kinds of scrap projects for charity quilts and having a ball! This adds one more way to have a great deal of fun sewing and give a little kid a great big smile.

dang.... I have been making crumb blocks for years and did not know it... I like to end all quilting project by taking the left over fabrics pieces that are small and sewing them into those crazy quilt blocks... DOING that always made me feel frugal and virtous.. No planning just sewing make the fabric big enought then square up... and using the whacked off portions to start another block... sew and flip the pieces is quick and easy sewing...MINDLESS...
THANKS for the link... I feel vindicated that someone else does the same.

My bee is doing the crumb blocks for an exchange at the beginning of August. I have 5 done and more part way done. I need at least 10 for the swap. Now I show them to my husband and say, "See this is why I don't throw away scraps." I still have lots of scraps from when I used to sew clothes for my kids years ago.
Frances in Austin where it will be over 100 again today. We have had over double the average number of triple digit days already and we still have August and September to go.

I have lots of crumbs. Sometimes while I am working on a quilt I will take the triangles that I have cut off and use them as followers. When I am chain stitching. I will sew two triangles together when I finish a chain, it really saves on thread too. I have saved all those little squares and haven't made anything out of them yet. A great name for this quilt would be "A little bit of everything else". Thanks for sharing.
