    I WON $50 GC!!!!

Last Fall, my mom mentioned a contest the local fabric store was holding. You had to purchase a kit with holiday fabrics and create a wall hanging from them. I was inspired by a trivet my MIL brought home from Russia and created this...

I just found out today that I won the contest!!

It was a popular vote by anyone who came into the store and wanted to vote. I'm so thrilled!! This is the first recognition any of my quilting has received - and to have the recognition be for something of my own creation is just so unbelievably exciting!!!

Thanks, Nancy! Its not a method I've seen around anywhere, but basically, its made up of a bunch of small squares (I think I used 3" squares). I folded them in 1/2, then kind of rolled them into a cone. I then laid them out on the fabric and pinned them to how I liked them. I then tacked them each down - the stitching is hidden for all but the top layer. I have 3 layers of squares around the wreath. After it was all tacked down, I layered it, sewed up the sides, turned it, and fluffed the squares to make it more dimensional. I didn't quilt the top too much since I'm still developing my skills in that area

Thanks, Kathy - my stash has definitely been calling me more. Since the wall hanging was my own creation, I'm getting more brave to do my own thing.

That's awesome, Ricky!! There is hope for me yet! BTW - I just finished piecing my first convergence top and have received a huge amount of compliments on it. Such a simple method that produces an outstanding piece!

Thanks, Louise - I hope so to! I started on another creation yesterday that I hope to put in a couple shows this summer. Nothing juried yet - all are 'popular' vote. One of these days I'll overcome my fear of being judged
