I have a collection of newspaper clippings from the 1930's from the Chicago Tribune that were from the Nancy Cabot column. I think I have about 1500 or so. I also collect antique sewing tools from the late 1800's to about 1910. Also collect antique fabrics from the 30's, 40's and 50's. And then of course, I have some featherweights so I can sew all of these older fabrics. What are you collecting? :P Juanita

I save all my F&P and Quilters Newsletter magazines, does that count ?lol   Actually I am trying to start a collection of books with antique quilts, although right now I only have a couple. I love just sitting down and flipping through and looking at what others have done before me.

Like mandysilk I save my QNM's. I love digging through them. I also keep my eyes open for children's books with good graphics. The local library will sell disgarded books sometimes. The local thrift store is also a good source. If I see a pattern of a floor or a piece of art in a newspaper that catches my eye I'll cut it out and save it. I try to be picky though cuz I see design ideas everywhere!

I thought I would revive this thread from years past instead of starting over completely. I collect the quilt patterns that were published in the Kansas City Star. I have 963 patterns and am still missing 157. Most of the ones I am missing are from 1940-1961. Who would think it would be easier to find something from 1926 than 1956? Anyway, if anyone else out there collects these treasures I would love to hear about it. I have hundreds of extras and may have one you need. You may have one I need. What are your favorite patterns? Have you made quilts from any of your patterns? I will post a picture of a quilt and the corresponding pattern later this afternoon.

I got a notion a few years ago that I would like to have this collection. I didn't know where to go to get them and after several attempts my efforts fizzled out. I found a link today which sells the collection in volumes. Here's a link:

My grandmother recently shared with me that my grandfather's mother (who died when he was just a young boy) had saved several of these, and my grandfather has them, the original newspaper clippings. My grandma is scanning them into her computer and then emails the file to myself and a few other relatives. I've not got tons so far, but enjoy the ones I have!
I plan to make a sampler quilt "one day" with a block of each pattern; I think my grandma said they have "only" around 100 or 150....I may not fit all of them in one quilt, LOL! but a sampler style is my idea for what to do with them. The ones we have are mostly 1929 to 1932 or so. I've used a few of them as single blocks in a diary quilt I'm working on -- there is a V block I used (our last name begins with V, and it's the center block for my diary quilt), a sunburst block, and their version of the airplane block.
I also have a block from a quilt this same relative made, which will go into the border of my diary quilt (or else into my sampler quilt when I get to that.....it's very far down on my list of future projects, but as I don't even yet have all the patterns that my grandma has, I think that's okay...).
Would love to see what quilt(s) you've made with yours! If you are looking for any from the time frame I mentioned, I can't send the originals as they aren't mine, but can send you a file of the scan, if I have one you are looking for.
