4 patch Kalidiscope

    http://community.webshots.com/user/e... other events.

Just had our pizza project / sew in..... I had a blast What is better than sewing with friends on a fun fabric. we worked 4 hours at the shop then I went home and sewed more hours to get my 40 blocks sewn up.... I love that every block is different and this 4 patch is so much eaiser than the wedged shape STACK AND SLASH or KALIDISCOPE quilt blocks. I love the setting the instructor used .... it will make a beautiful quilt when it is finished.

I posted the class project pictures. I will post some of my blocks later this week when I get done with sewing them.

Anna, is doing the 4patch stacked posy blocks the most fun you've had in a dog's age???!!!! Very addictive, aren't they? LOL

There is a bunch of gals, here on the east coast, who have been addicted to them for over a year (well, since HD Designs came out with it) and still going strong. It makes you looks at fabric in a totally different way, doesn't it?!

    Enjoy!

I am now looking like crazy for LARGE FLORAL / MOtif fabrics I would never have looked at before. I want to make more and I haven't finished the one I started yet.... I am also looking at setting differently... I have avoided anything but a straight patch but this has got my head buzzing. I see so many possiblilties that would be absolutely wonderful. Have you made this type of quilt... do you have pictues I would love to see them. I have posted pictures on the web shots of some of the blocks I have made. I am going tomorrow to pick up more fabric to make the settings more lusious. I have enough fabric to make another set of blocks to make this quilt queen size.

Sad thing is I can not get any more fabric until I finish my current projects ( 10 of them) I promised myself and my hubby. He would close his eyes but I have no where else to store any more projects and I want to make a guest room for the baby ( my daughters baby) I am expecting in the spring my first grand child .... so fabric storage has to move .... best way I know is to finish projects.

What was the name of the publication / book with the pattern. Elaine has been teaching this block for 4 years now. The ladies who have been in the Gathering Group made this block 4 years ago, but this is the first time for me. I would like to see what other blocks / techniques are available.

If you are looking for a really large very vibrant floral, check for Benartex Flower Show line They have ten to fifteen different flowers or color waves of the same flower. I picked up some when I bought a kit to make a quilt for grandnephews wedding December of O8 but then realized that the kit would not make a quilt the size I wanted. I found the line at a quilt shop in San Antonio but had also looked it up on e Quilter.com
Also on e Quilter I found a line of ombre fabrics that are shaded light to dark selvedge to selvedge and the most lucsious colors. I wish I could buy at least two yards of every color but limited myself to two shades of yellow to gold and one of orange. I found it originally in Illinois a t a little shop near Elgin but only bought the green They are really wonderful for grass or fields because you can have shading as part of the lalndscape. and the green goes with the Flower Show line .

I feel your pain about not buying any more fabric, I told dh I wouldn't start any new projects so he said does that mean no fabric will come home from Houston in ten days and after we both picked up ourselves up from the floor from laughing. He said don't bring home too much. Well quilters out there who will say how much is too much? certainly not me!!!!! Ann who cant wait for Houston WhooHoo!

Ann, I hope you have a great time in Houston even though I'm green with envy.

Neen, I love both of your quilts, but especially the second one.

Neen, those quilts are beautiful!!! What is the name of that pattern and where can I get it? I, too, am trying so hard to not buy anymore fabric until after Christmas. I have so many quilts that I need to finish! Then I see a quilt like this and don't know how I am going to stand waiting!

Sherry, the pattern is 4Patch Stacked Posy by H.D. Designs. That is for the center blocks. I just "set" them anyway I want to. The second quilt is essentially a 4patch sqare in a square and then snowballed. I will see if I can get a close-up of it......

I love this pattern. It starts out as a simple 4 patch and the sky is the limit, as to what you do with it.....

                    Have fun!

                    Peace,
                    neen

I saw a sample of this at my LQS, but their quilt wasn't nearly as pretty as yours. Thanks for sharing!

We just did this pattern at our guild workshop for October.

I'm making my blocks 8 1/2" finished with a block border and sashings & cornerstones.

I haven't posted it on my quilt show blog but have it on my personal blog... a few entries down.

I'm really liking it! I've done the stack & whack and this is the same burst but less pain.

I'd love to do others but also have sooo many projects in the pipeline that have to be finished.

I'm making my 4patch posies for our bed. So 56 blocks, a narrow border an then a wide 8" border of my flower print. I'll have to pray through the quilting as I've never quilting something that big.

Neen, thanks for the info. I went to the H.D. web site and honestly, I never would have ordered the pattern if I had seen it first there. Both of yours are wonderful! Thanks for the close up picture, too.

Joyce, I didn't find your blog yet but will keep looking. I went to your profile and both of your landscape quilts are gorgeous. Something else I've been wanting to do for a long time!

There just aren't enough hours in a day to make all the things I want to make :-) What a great problem to have!

I am also working on a stacked four patch. My quilt guild offered two workshops on this pattern. Our next quilt show will have at least two dozen of these beautiful quilts. My blocks are small 4" finished. I made 68 blocks in class and that evening when I got home. They are so addicting and instant gratification! I'm working on setting the blocks now. I have a great blue hydragea on yellow background fabric that I'd like to make in the larger size blocks. I really like the larger size blocks because you can see the design better. Neen and Joyce thank you for sharing your photos. They are wonderful. Peggy in St. Louis where the autumn foliage is at it's peak. SIMPLY GORGEOUS!
