    wool quilts

I just watched show 101 and I'm wondering if anyone has a good method for piecing wool on my Bernina. In the show which was great there were wool and wool and cotton mixed quilts but it wasn't mentioned how they were pieced, what thread, size and method for seams and machine foot would be good to use for wool.

I have both preshrunken (I guess you call it boiled wool) that I prepared and also some yardage of wool that I purchased new... all of which I'd like to use to make quilts! Does anyone have any experience with this type of work :?: I'd appreciate help getting started.
This is my first time ever using an on line forum so I hope I did this right :!:

    Hello Katherine,
I haven't a clue as to the answer to your question but I clicked your profile to see your quilts (subtle hint ) and found out you are in Lewiston!
My home town is Niagara Falls! (I live in Oregon now) It was nice to see a post from home.
As to finding out about thread, etc. have you tried emailing Bernina or the "Thread Guy" yet? There is also a web group of Bernina users that is also very knowledgeble. I might be able to dig up the URL on that one if you are interested.
    Regards,
    Rose

      Hi Katherine!
I have only pieced one wool quilt, and I used cotton piecing thread and a jens needle just as I would have for a cotton quilt. It worked just fine on my Pfaff.

Hi Wendy, thanks for taking the time to reply. Did you use regular quarter inch seams or overlap them? Katherine

          Katherine,
I used a regular 1/4" seam. There was I typo in my post; it was supposed to say jeans needle.

Thanks for the reply, I understood the jeans needle no problem. Wish me luck! K

when using Judy Mathieson's method of Paper Piecing with freezer paper as ahown in series 7, how do you print directional squares such as for example a letter E which when complete has to face a certain direction...do you use the mirror image or the pattern as it will look exactly....since she demos a pie segment of a mariner's compass type pie I believe there was not reference to the directional issue in the video..I have watched it a few times. Thanks for any help you can give me. This is a great feature of the website that we can ask questions! Gratefully, Katherine

Yes! Just like applique with SOME freezer paper methods, if you have a directional design the pattern must be reversed because you are fusing the foundations to the back of the foundation.

Katherine, any time you are in doubt about whether a pattern should be reversed for any technique, you might want to make a small sample with something like your letter "E" and make sure that it comes out in the right orientation!
