Convergence Quilts
I attended a Ricky Tims lecture sponsord by Olde City Quilts in Burlington New Jersey. I was inspired to make a convergence quilt using a challenge fabric from the guild. The quilt consisted of four fabrics - black, a multicolored Ricky hand dye, a blue commercial fabric that reads like a solid and the challenge fabric which is a wild multicolored stripe . I know Ricky recommends an overall quilting design for these, but what thread color would you use for such disparite colors? I thought of monofilament. I did look at the converergence quilts in the Quilt Gallery but often it is difficult to see the quilting. Any suggestions from people who have quilted these types of quilts would be appreciated. How did you decide on the color to quilt them if you used an overall design.Tags: None

If you don't want the quilting to show beyond texture, you could also look at solid colors like taupe, grays and olive. These colors tend to blend in well with a lot of other colors, including black. You'll want to pull some thread off of the spool and pool it on top of the quilt to see how it will blend in.

tha's a great idea and I have pulled some thread and pooled it on the quilt which helped alot. Stitching in the ditch would work well for the inside of the quilt with the strips but I put on borders around the quilt in patches of the four fabrics I used in thee quilt so I have to quilt inside them. I pooled some variegated thread from Superior threads on the borders and I think I have found my thread. I think the solid black needs some color to blend it with the other fabrics. Thank you Ritzy. I love your quilts.Originally posted by ritzyWith my convergence quilt, I think I just stitched in the ditch so it didn't matter.

Radquilter, I think you will be very pleased with the results. I used Rainbows 40 wt. variegated thread by Superior Threads on my convergence quilt and was thrilled with it. I used a Ricky Tims hand-dyed fabric with a thin border of black and a tone on tone deep purple border. The variegated thread worked beautifully with the bright colors and tied the black and purple fabrics in with the rest of the quilt.

I have decided on using a Rainbow thread from Superior- Montego Bay. I placed it on the quilt and it looks great and as you said , ties the black fabric with all the other fabrics. Thanks for your encouragemant.Originally posted by brendasr8Radquilter, I think you will be very pleased with the results.
