Great job! Does it measure 3" square? I have a tutorial on my website for drafting an 8-pointed star http://www.amc-quilts.com/uploads/8-...r_Tutorial.pdf. I made a miniature one awhile back that was about 4-1/2" I think. It was also paper pieced.

Thanks for all your comments. Really, with this technique, it's so much easier. Basically, all the strips for one diamond are printed in such a way that you paper-piece each one, and then, there is a fold line that aligns the seam lines so that all the points match. There is still a challenge to match the points between 2 bigger diamonds, and I didn't leave the paper on at this point, because of the bulk.Originally posted by ajclappGreat job! This block is 6" but it should be 5 1/2 - the star is 5".

Thanks Susan,Originally posted by suehenyonIs this traditional paper piecing, or English paper piecing like Linda Franz does? Andree, that star is amazing!
It's "traditional" paper-piecing, like I mentionned, there is a twist to it: the strips are printed parallel to each other on the same sheet, and there is a line between each that when you fold the paper on this line, it aligns the sewing lines of each strip, and the points match perfectly. This is OK for each of the 8 diamonds. However, you still need to match the points when you join the diamonds together...

That's the method I used for mine except I did it in 8 sections so there are extra seams in the corner squares and triangles. I didn't get the pieces to line up perfectly in the center. I have the drawing for larger blocks somewhere. It's been a long time so will take some looking for it. I'm not sure where the finished block is. It will turn up someday when I sort through things.

I did find the template. It was in an old file folder with an X in front of it dated 2006. This is the 4-1/2" size. I also have a template for a 9" size but never made it. I'm sure it would have been much easier though. There are extra lines on the paper because I paper piece from the front and use my seam guide and the extra lines to sew the seams. But you could also use the templates to sew with the fabric underneath since there is a left and a right.
