      What a beautiful sample, Rita.

With the ditching, I don't care for 40 wt poly's, especially Rainbows, because it's expensive and because of the size, takes a LOT, depending on the project. It has the shine which makes it show up. Could you use Aurifil in a blending color?

If you do you the Monopoly for the SITD, I'd like to hear on what you think of the stiffness it creates.

That is a lovely sample, Rita, and I am not surprised at all that Ginger has found it! As for the thread to use in the bobbin, I would go back to Cindy Needham's philosophy about SID thread colors, with a twist, though. She uses neutral colors that blend into the ditch for her top thread. If you still want to use invisible thread in the top, then pick a somewhat neutral 60 wt thread like Bottom Line that you might have that blends nicely with the backing fabric. I just put on a bright piece of green fabric similar to yours three shades of Bottom Line thread (#613 sage, #619 tan and #622 grey) and they all blended very nicely. You'll never see it even if it pokes through the top because it's in the ditch and as long as the neutral color blends into with the backing fabric rather than looking like it sits on top of the fabric, you should be okay.

I have done a sample of all the threads I have that would be appropriate. Unfortunately the only thread I can get in 2 of the 3 LQSs here is Gutterman bog-standard 40wt in a narrow range of colours. The other LQS has some YLI but you have to book an appointment to go there and it usually doesn't suit for a couple of days! I usually order my threads from the UK or US but that takes anything from one week to a month. I have 2 cones of bottom line - one cream, the other slate grey. Fortunately the cream one seems to be the best in the samples I have done. The other threads I used are Aurifil 40 and 50 wts. And the last thread on the left is a green thread from Ikea.

Thanks for all your input. I think I will go with the cream Bottom Line.

Seems like the sample with the oops would be a wonderful mug rug.
