    skinny insertions

Some time ago on one of the shows the guest showed and Ricky demonstrated how to insert very thin fabric strips into blocks or other pieces of fabric. I can't remember which show this was and exactly how to do it. Hope someone can let me know.

Check out. Episode 801, chapter one:

    Ricky teaches improvisational pieced slivers

    Think this might be it.

Thanks.... that helps, but that is not the thing I am thinking of... this was something shown TO Ricky and it involved, as I recall, folding and stitching. I actually did this after watching this, but can't find my sample! Isn't that always the way? I appreciate your suggestion, and may use that technique if I can't find the other.

I think that Jean Wells does skinny strips. Could this be in her episode? I think she demonstrated it on TQS sometime. I know I also saw her demonstrate this on Quilting Arts, but think I saw it here, too. But I don't know if she does it the way you're thinking.

Could it be Rob Apell's Portrait Class? learn/classrooms/

It wasn't Rob Apell's class; those were insertions around the border. No, this was a way to inset slivers of another fabric into the main fabric. If I could ONLY find the samples I stitched.... I'll look at the Jean Wells show and see if that was it.

No, it wasn't Jean's show but I enjoyed looking at it again anyway! I think what I am looking for was not that far back.

Alex demo-ed something like that too. But I can't remember which show it was, sorry.

Try episode 910 with Don Linn Alex shows how to do Chicklets maybe that is the show you want.
                  Good luck

No, the Chicklets quilt that Alex made is not what I am remembering, either, though I am enjoying revisiting all these segments as folks suggest them. I appreciate everyone chipping in with ideas of where to find it. I am beginning to wonder if I just dreamed the whole thing???

I don't think you dreamed it. I remember Alex doing it as one of her challenge quilts. Maybe she'll read this and respond.

I was thinking about the chicklets, but episode 908 with Dianne Hire also has curvaceous squares from her book Curvy Quilts, looks like curvy inserts to me, but don't have time to look at it again.

Hurrah!!! Cheryl, that was the show!! I just looked at it again, took copious notes and made note of the show and its # so I can find it when I need it. That is exactly what I had remembered seeing. While waiting for the answer to this, though, I went ahead with the project I was making and just did some wider insertions which will work fine for my purpose. But what a joy to have this technique demonstrated again. Thank you to you, and to everyone else who gave suggestions.
