    quilting way

would you be kind to inform:
i have a big quilt top to quilt.
i want to quilt small areas all over the top.
    my question is:
do i need to stitch the border of the area first and
then to quilt in side it, or to quilt inside it and then to quilt the borders of those areas.
    i hope it is clear.

I guess there are as many answer to this as there are quilters. I would secure the layers eventually with water soluble thread if you don't want the stitching to stay. After that you can quilt where you want.
I'm a big fan of the classes on http://www.Craftsy.com
There is a class called Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine, which I can recommend.

I often quilt in the ditch around big blocks first and then do the finer detail. That way everything is secured first.

But don't listen to me. Quilting is not my strong side. I'm better at piecing and appliqué.

It works, so don't knock it (dismiss the idea)

I'm with Lorchen here stitch in the ditch around all of the blocks and then quilt where ever you would like.

Me too! Secure the blocks and then you are only working in a small area at a time.
