    lightweight batting

I would like to know what is the best , lightest weight batting to use in bed quilts for senior citizens. They have trouble lifting quilts with the 80/20 batting and polyester is so hot! I have some silk batting but that's pretty expensive stuff. Any suggestions???? BTRANLO

I would use Quilter's Dream Cotton in the Request Loft. You may need to ask your LQS to order some for you as they usually stock the heavier lofts.

What about 'Thermore' from Hobbs? It's thin and very light. It's intended for use in garments, but it works really well in quilts that need to be light. It's 100% polyester, non-allergenic. machine and hand washable.

Maybe you need no batting at all, or just a layer or two of flannel. Flannel shrinks more than cotton, though. I would wash it at least two times before you use it.

Check out Quilters Dream Orient, it's so yummy to the touch! Light, breathable, silk/bamboo blend.

I would suggest wool. It's light weight, and has lovely thermal properties. it's warm and cool, somewhat like silk but a lot cheaper. It also has good loft so shows quilting well and resists creasing.

How about skipping the batting altogether, as has already been suggested, but backing the quilt with a layer of fleece? Not only is it light, warm and cuddly, it tends not to move around too much either.

I do love the wool batting. I get muscle spasms from too much weight so the wool is light and comfortable.

Yup, I would definitely suggest wool as well, Hobbs Heirloom and Quilters Dream are both machine washable.
