Rosemary, I wish you could have been standing next to me as I viewed the miniatures at the Houston International Quilt Festival! You would have been in awe of one called Copper Pennies! I just got home late last night, so have not downloaded my photos yet, but when I do, I will post a picture it for you. It is probably 1/12 scale. And so precise! If I’m remembering correctly, it was a pineapple block. I also saw an incredible piece by Philippa Naylor. It was called Wearable Art, and must have been only 12” square. It won the $5000 prize for Merit Quilting. Although it was a wonderful piece, I wonder how a 12” quilt can win that prize amongst beautiful whole cloth quilts 10 times the size. I will post that one too. Have fun with yours, and I hope it is a big winner!

Since I work small, there are a few show I cannot enter. My normal 2 foot wide work cannot go to the AQS shows. But I know that the Spring AQS show does have a mini category. Google AQS shows for the details. Other shows to check out are the IQA shows (quilts.org), Road to California (yup, that’s the name of the show!) and the Mancuso Quilt shows. (Can’t remember if Mancuso has minis.).

I had fun stalking my jester quilt, and talking to people about it. It was probably the smallest quilt in the Whimsical category, but she showed well. The glittered fairy frost fabric that I used for the mask sparkled really well in their lighting. I was pleased! Now I’m off to unpack!

Dawn I saw it on FB and it doesn't look small to me at all. Beautiful, lovely for you to be pictured with it and be able to share with those viewing it.

Since the original large blocks will be ending up at 1/2” square I thought I would skip the central ultra mini section and make it like the original sampler quilt should have been.

Dawn I look forward to seeing your photos when you get them downloaded. It is fun lurking next to your own work and eavesdropping on folks and engaging them in conversation isn’t it. Thanks for the heads up of other shows I could try.

It’s the 1/12th scale 1/4” binding that worries me....

and then top stitch 1/36" from the edge? What do others do?

Rosemary, it is acceptable to have an 1/8 th inch or just a tiny bit wider binding on a tiny scale quilt. I found the two quilts that I mentioned online. Copper pennies is not as small as Philippa’s.

I find that a binding that is just a tad larger than 1/8th inch aesthetically looks better. I did do an 1/8 inch binding on a 5” x 12” mini, and wished I had made it wider. Perhaps because it is black and the quilt is more colorful.

So far I have liked doing a knife edge finish fo my minis. I have been thinking about doing a knife edge with a miniature piping on the edge. Have I mentioned that I am thinking of entering both of them into nexts years FoQ, in their relevant classes -just to blow people’s doors off if the find them both :P

Those copper pennies are awesome. As for Phillips Naylor’s piece, I know that I have seen it at FoQ and yes, her quilting is excellent.

A few episodes ago Laura Wasilowski showed how to do a circular wallhanging using loads of fusible, her forte. So I had a go and made a hanging for a 'chicken craft Christmas
swap'. Fun to do and really easy.
I used inspiration from Gloria Laughman for the bottom bit, traced chickens from the chicken feed bag and took inspiration from Pinterest for the tree and leaves. It hangs really straight.
