Today is my day to post. Lucky 13!

Well, my "Happy Hour" piece wasn't accepted for the Cherrywood Challenge. Not so lucky! Oh well.....

I've been working on the Christmas quilts for my four kids and families. I started making the trees while I was at my friend Brenda Papadakis' home in late May. I finished the trees, trimmed them all and sorted them into 4 different sets. There are a total of 48 large, 72 medium and 96 small trees.
Here's the 12 one yard cuts I collected.

Here's the first set being pieced.

        Here's the top completed

And here's set two ready to be pieced

The last 3 should go faster as I drafted all the border pieces and now I don't have to figure it all out as I go. At least I hope so! The top is 46" x 56". Not too bad for having no plan!

Last week we went to New Jersey to visit our kids there. Our kids that live near us were there also, so we had lots of fun. We spent the weekend in New York. Wow! While there I noticed that my oldest daughter was using a little plastic bag to carry around her cords. My husband thought it was trash and threw it away. After digging it out of the trash I told her that I would make her a real bag. This daughter is going through a rough time. She's getting divorced and moving. So I made her a little bag and will send it to her this week. She's the one that likes black and red.

I'll be dyeing fabric in a week or so. I'm looking forward to that. The summer weather has been pretty good here. My flowers are doing well. Life is good!

Happy July to you all! geneva

            Geneva,
Those tree quilts are turning out very nicely.

I’m sure your daughter will appreciate the zipper pouch. I’ll keep her in my prayers. It can be a very rough time, but eventually she will be on the other side of the ‘going through it’.

Thank you Luann for your kind words for my daughter. I know she'll be much better off, but like you said, it's the getting through it that is so hard. We've all been there in some form or fashion.

I forgot to mention that I am one of 3 featured artists and the Walter Clore Wine Center in Prosser, WA for the months of July and August. I belong to a local art group and we are invited to display our work at various venues. This venue by far is the best one yet. Lots of people go through there especially these two months. Most of the artists in this group have framed art. Painting, photographs, etc. It's been a learning curve for a lot of them when I want to show fiber art. When I met the man in charge of the group he looked at me and said "Oh you're the new blanket lady." Oh well.... In any case, my dear husband rigged various ways to hang the quilts to accommodate the hanging equipment used by framed work. Some of the quilts we hung by using used sewing machine needles. Here's some pics.

I sure hope these pictures come out right side up. In my last post, one picture never posted and one was sideways. All of them were the same orientation in my file.

              Again, happy July! geneva

Geneva, those quilts are fantastic! Congratulations on being featured. It's baby steps, isn't it, when it come to opening more eyes to the fact that quilts can be ART.

I've had a busy month. I received a great thank you note from a grand and we had a special sew day. I finished a tote, a hat and a purse. I enjoyed taking a break from quilting projects. I recapped what happened in June and and set goals for the 3rd quarter Finish A Long. For the last couple of years, I've been content to roll unfinished projects into the next quarter and to add more than I could possibly finish. This quarter, I'm taking a different tact. I have been working on reducing my stash.

At the June guild meeting, I shared the rules for the challenge and a sample. I'm chairing that committee when the guild starts their new guild year in September. Many members wanted a sneak peak and the president asked if I would share. I also shared the rules on a blog post and invited others who want to bush their stash to join in and have some fun. You are also welcome to join too!

                          Terry,

You've been busy! Your special thank you note is precious! I like your challenge quilt and idea.

Your to do list is varied. I like that you make a plan. Good idea!

Lotti, I have a deeper appreciation for your Hexie Quilt. This is my first ever Hexie flower. I didn’t fussy cut anything, just wanted to see if I was even interested in the investment of time that goes into doing this. I can say I enjoyed it, I doubt I’d ever get a lap size quilt finished, but then again, if I just accept that it is an ‘ongoing’ project, and never consider it a WIP or UFO, May be I’ll call it an UP (Uplifting Project). I used Missie Carpenter’s methods and purchased her starch pen, starch, and finger stiletto. I know I’ll do more of these and it may be just the process I’ve been looking for to memorialize each of the quilts I make. Each flower can be significant to a quilt, person, or fabric collection I’ve used. Yep, I think I might just have become infected by that ‘Hexie bug’, lol

I just couldn’t wait to share the photo, I think I’m ‘down another rabbit hole’,,,,,,,, see you there!!!

It’s the 5th of the month, somewhere!!! LOL

I just put up a new blog post, it’s a quick read as soon as you get past my first paragraph of whining, lol.

I have gotten quite a bit moved forward this month, even if I don’t have many finished projects. I am keeping my list up to date and sadly I must admit that more are being added than are being completed. BUT there’ll come a month when it’ll look like I never slept because I have so many finished items to share. I think that might be a fact of life in ‘LuLu Land’, lol.

I finished 2 lap pillows. You use them for when you’re doing handwork in a lounge chair and not at a table. So far, I’ve only used one to sit upon to get me to a better height at the table, well, it’s still useful But the other one is the ‘pretty one’. I made a cover for the skylight dome in our dining room. It helped when the a/c was acting up. Keeps that room about 10 to 15 degrees cooler now!!! My hubby thinks I’m a genius for doing it. It’s really just some duck fabric with 2 layers of insulbright layered in, and then a channel to run a tie cord through. It looks like the bedcaps Laura Ingalls and her sister wore to bed in the series Little House on The Prairie.
I did some dyeing and decided I need to stick to fibers that I can identify and not ever again will I dye a tote made of canvas cloth. Where it was stitched together those seams and hems wouldn’t rinse out and I finally gave up trying and they have departed the property ! !

I’ll include the picture of my Scrappy Flying Geese Units as far as I’ve gotten them done. Other than that, the blog has a few more pictures but like I said, nothing much for finishes,,,

15 Pet mats this month and 12 quilts longarmed for charity:

This was the best book (next to the Bible) I’ve ever read.
