    Synthrapol

I've nearly finished hand appliqueing a quilt. The appiques are batiks on a white background fabric. I tested some of the batiks for color fastness prior to sewing, but am concerned that I forgot to test them all and some might run when I launder the top. Should I:
    a) handwash the top as usual and only add synthrapol if some of the fabric colors run or
    b) add some synthrapol to the water prior to immersing the quilt top just in case?
    Any advice would be welcome!
    Regards
    Sue

Why wash it twice, just in case, use the Synthrapol first. BUT use only a little bit, it bubbles a lot. Ask me how I know.

Post a picture and good luck.

Thank you for your quick reply, Sharon! I washed the top and hung it outside on the line. It looked OK, but when I went out to look at it after half an hour, the green batik I used had run into the white background. I washed the top again with half a teaspoon of synthrapol and the runs have completely disappeared. I am one relieved lady! I have attached a photo of the top. It has just come out of the dryer, so is pretty wrinkled! xx

Sue, the quilt top is beautiful. I am glad the green came out. Please show us a picture of the finished quilt when you get it done We always love to see them finished too.

Wow that is one pretty quilt. I am so impressed you also put in the dryer, but it looks great. Now for a finished picture.

Thanks AnnieLu for the info from Rob Appel, I will look that up.

Sharon, its my birthday and having a great one, in Colorado

Annie Lou, thanks for the tip about Rob. I can never remember which one to use for what. I'll have to go looking for that.

                  So pretty!

I would have been so scared to wash the unfinished top.

I quilted and bound an antique top and washed it. It was bubble gum pink and white. Shocked me to pieces when I opened the washer and the pink borders, added later but still old, had run so very much! Three washes with Synthropol and it was all clear. :cheer:

Your quilting will make the applique even more beautiful. I hope to see your post!

Thank you to the ladies who replied to my query about Synthrapol. The quilt is now finished - the last 7 hours of quilting yesterday and I added the binding this morning. There are no signs of the awful green bleeding I initiallty had on the quilt.

Wow!!! It was beautiful before the quilting and now it is fabulous. Hope that is spelled right, but if not you all know what I mean. Will this be in some shows now? I would love to see it in person.
