Hi Beth, good to hear from you. It is always nice to 'meet' new folks to talk to here.

Thank you, Dawn, for your kind words about my HC. I suppose Monday is the big announcement day. I found your HC on the Forum and love the creativity with which you crafted the hummingbird's feathers, all the wonderful detail in quilting and I thought the white background was a beautiful contrast--unique and a lovely surprise. So beautiful!

Hi!Beth ! from central southwestern Idaho. You should post some pics of where you live....by the map...quite
the country. I'm bettin' you have long winters and short summers?? Thanks again for finding my tall plant.
What a Victorian name "Hortensia" is   ! Would you like another challenge? We have another lovely
vine/shrub that was "bird planted" at my SiL 's and DH started ours from a cutting. The blooms look like the
wildflower Shooting Star....but it's little and this is big....fence-high or more. I've hunted but no luck as yet.

        Here's the bloom.

And here is the result ! The birds must like the fruit/seed .

Glad you chimed in...Like Rosemary said....we love new 'voices" DH says he hopes you have good luck finding his
mystery plant ! Now....back to stitchin' that row !

Marilyn, that flower looks like it is one of the nightshade family-actually my first thought was deadly nightshade, but I am almost certainly wrong on the 'deadly' bit.

Solanum Dulcamara, Woody Nightshade Marilyn. Nearly right Rosemary

You guys rock ! :woohoo: I'm  ops: ops: ops: !!!
We prob'ly should've known this one !! I knew it grew here...but is hunted and eradicated along
with several others, by ranchers so I can't say I've seen it out of a book ...and that was in pharmacy class.!  Perhaps, as recreation
replaces grazing on public lands here, we will see more of some of these less desirable plants in out back country.
                  Good thing vs.bad thing...always trade-off.!

                    Hello!

We are enjoying cooler weather, mid 80's, so I am happy!

I belong to a small group, about 15 people, called the "Make it Modern" group. Last January they decided to make a quilt. Each person was to add to the quilt. Kind of a round robin, but not all sides of a quilt. A collection of fabric picked out by the moderator and a book called "The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters" by Sherri Lynn Wood was put into a big bag. You could add fabric if you wanted to. My piece is on the far right, below the red/turquoise checkerboard. I had to insert my section of improv flying geese. This was fun and I learned a lot and best of all, I finished my section! Something about improv is exciting and scary. I kept wanting to make everything the same size and alike, but had to stop and think "what if?" And at some point, things have to be somewhat the same size in order to attach it to something else.

Now back to quilting my grandson's big boy bed quilt. Every time he comes over he puts on my glasses and sits at the sewing machine to sew on his quilt! He'll be 3 at the end of this month. Time sure does fly!

                    Take care, geneva

Thank you, Renata! And, yes, today is the big day! Good luck to you, Nancy, BJ, and Robin! I will be on pins and needles all day, and running to my iPad every time it pings!

That being said, I wonder if we will wait all day, and then get a notification through Facebook that they are running behind again? I hope not. My nerves can't handle that again! I tend to be quite anxious in anticipation. :woohoo: I suppose that is part of the fun, though.

Oh, and the background is actually a very pale lavender Hoffman hand dye. There are very subtle blotches of lavender here and there. But, you are right, it does look white at times, and in various lighting. The back has more lavender going on.

Love that improv piece, Geneva! Good for you, stepping out of your box and participating in that!

Good luck to all the Hoffman Challenge folks!! Be sure you all chime in and let us know how you fare.

Best of luck to you, too, Dawn, as well as those we know submitted an entry to the Hoffman Challenge and those who made a submission and we don't know about it.
Love your improvisational, modern quilt, Geneva and so fun to do it as a participatory piece. When I saw the picture, I thought of my visits to Morocco and Tunisia!

Just wanted to share this! BOTH Renata and I got a FIRST PLACE in our categories in the Hoffman Challenge! What are the chances of that? We are still on cloud nine, over the moon, and pinching ourselves!

                                Congratulations Dawn and Renata!

                                What wonderful news -

I've been busy but lurking without comment for a while now. I think it has something to do with 4 grandsons arriving within the last 12 months.
One is now walking, one is crawling, one is just sitting, and one has just rolled over! Whew! Hard to keep up-to-date!

Yes, I've done a few quilts, and will try to get some pics up.

Glad to see the virtual retreat is going strong. I was at a real quilt retreat last week, and it was marvelous!

Hugs to everyone, although I don't really think I am up-to-date on everyone, everything I've seen here is good!
