Please comment on any suggestions for staying at hotels not on the official list for the houston quilt festival and public transportation possibilities to the activities.

I always stay at Club Quarters, which is about a five or six block walk from the Convention Center. It's an old hotel that has been restored, and prices are not as high as some of the listed hotels. The rooms are a little small, but I always enjoy my stay there, and you are not there much anyway. They have a car that will take you to the Center in the morning and in the evening. Taxis are readily available for only $6.00 for as many as can get in the car, going to any where in the city.

If you need information about transportation options you can check www.ridemetro.org. The bus and train schedules are there. They have recently completed a rail line that goes right by the convention center so it should expand your hotel options a little bit. I live in Houston, so don't know about the hotel rates, but you can look at hotels near the Texas Medical Center and see what's available.
