quilt as you go joining blocks together

Hi, i have 12 dresden plates to join together, i followed sharon pedersons video, then realised she was not joining one block to another, there must be another method, please help someone, i am lost.......

Are you asking how to join the blocks without sashing? I haven't tried this, but this should work:

- quilt the blocks. leaving an inch or so unquilted around the edges
- trim the batting to the finished size of the block
- put two blocks, top sides together. Move batting and backing out of the way, sew blocks together
- flatten out blocks. The batting should butt up at the seam.
- lay one side of backing flat across butted batting. Fold other side under 1/4". Whip stitch in place
- repeat with all of the blocks and rows.
- add quilting over the seams between the blocks. Depending on the design, you could do some of this after joining the individual blocks

Like I say, I haven't tried this, but I think it should work

I have done QAYG without sashing, and did it pretty much as Nancy describes. However the one variation I did was to fold back the batting & backing and sew the blocks together first, then I lay them out flat and trimmed the batting so that it would butt up neatly (it doesn't need to be a completely straight line). I then whip stitched the batting together, before moving on to laying out the backing as Nancy describes.

Have you looked at www.thegourmetquilter.com she has a lot of video's on Youtube very interesting to watch and I think a good teacher.
