Wendy, if you purchase topstitch needles from Superior Threads, you don't need metallic needles. Also, I buy their titanium needles because they last so much longer. Their web site tells you what size needle you need which whatever thread you are using.

Yes I've found the large hole works fine with metallic thread. I've not tried superior metallic yet. Bottomline ordered in neutral colours. Good thing I didn't start talking metallic before my finger slipped.

Hi Wendy, did you order your Bottom line thread in the UK; and if you did can I ask where from? Often the p&p from the US can be expensive and I really want to try this thread.

Hi, I bought it on Amazon from USA postage free so will probably take forever to get here. It was £6.83. I bought silver and taupe which disappear in light and medium colours according to Superiors website.

You can get it from Barnyarns, Quilt Direct, Cotton Patch and some others and pay the same plus £3+ postage. I'm a bit of a skinflint..

I don't know if Wendy did order from the UK but there is a distributor there. The email address is -

            machinequilter.co.uk

            telephone number is 01526 378057

I bought a couple of cones from them and they were very nice to deal with.

The titanium topstitch needles from Superior really are exceptional. I use them for quilting, machine embroidery, piecing, etc. They last a long time.
I used one to paper-piece an entire queen-sized quilt. I paper-piece with copy/printer paper. I had to stop in the middle and quilt another project. I forgot to put a new needle in. I was surprised that after sewing through paper for days, that the same needle did machine quilting with no stitching problems at all. It stitched like a brand new needle.

Thank you Rita and Wendy, it's good to know where you buy supplies as I have a limited choice of thread locally. I think I shall have to try the Superior titanium topstitch needles Judith.
