Thanks for the compliments and encouragement. This system is working for me. I think I really need time along the way to think through how I am going to do the next step. Having small easy projects gives me that time and finishing them in-between gives me a needed feeling of accomplishment. Plus I don't get bored. Current show on how Sharon does raw edge appliqué came around just in time. While Gabe's quilt was just ideas in my head I was dreading using/managing such big sheets of fusibles. I currently have all the freezer paper patterns done. Yeah!!! Hopefully, I will have a successful shopping trip today finding just the right background.

Charae, Gabe is a wonderful artist. I am having so much fun playing with his images. And Wendy, I found wonderly bright batiks for the creatures. When I find the background fabric I will take pictures.

I can tell from the whimsy of Gabe's FHC quilt that you are going to have so much fun making it. The drawings are so well executed, I can't wait to see fabric on them! :cheer: Your mother-in-law's wall quilt is charming, Lois, love your artistry, you're on a roll... inspirational!

Really want to get on to some quilting or piecing at the moment, but fabric I ordered on my b'day last week hasn't arrived yet, and I have an urgent jacket to make for Izzy, which involves loads of hand basting of the two layers before I can start putting it together - it is pink wool and a layer of black net with spider's webs & spiders on it (think Halloween/goth  ) I made the skirt for xmas, but she has an occasion on the 21st Feb she could wear the outfit to, so I had better get on with it. Then I can clear the decks for quilting WotRott :woohoo:

(still haven't found the muggies I started before xmas ops: )

Lois, I bet your mother in law has everyone who comes by stop and look at her Valentine. I'm sure she is very proud of it! Gold star for you!

I also like your idea of taking a child's drawing and making it into a quilt! I'm eager to see how you put all this together.

I'm currently putting the final borders on a couch quilt, sewing down the binding on a bed quilt for the back guest room and I made some pin wheels ala a Missouri Quilt you tube I saw on fb. The pin wheels are made with the left overs of the bed quilt, and there are even left overs from the left overs with which I will make pillows for said guest bed! I'm feeling very victorious, until I turn around and see the entire wall of bins of fabric and realize, it's hopeless to try to use up all my stash! But I'll keep trying.

            Love hearing from you all!

Lois, that is fantastic! I love that you are jumping out of the box! This will be a most treasured gift. Keep carving out that creativity and soon you'll be on TQS showing us how to do it!

Over the weekend helped GD Jackie make a pop
bottle doll historic figure for a 5th grade school project.
She chose Laura Ingalls as her historic figure. (Who
would of thought it would take most of the day)!

Just for fun I made TGS's Valentine teabags for
                family and friends.

Barb, the dolls are adorable and gave you some great quality time with your granddaughter (who is quite adorable with that darling smile herself). How did I miss the teabags on TQS? Glad you posted a photo!

Barb, what a neat doll project! AND, the tea bags! Cute as can be! I've finished my February projects (like Lois, I need to have some things that I can finish along the way while working on bigger quilts - it feels good to finish something!). These are to go to my Church to donate to needy children. I saw these on a Bonnie Hunter facebook link - super fun to make. I'm also practicing my machine quilting on my Platinum 16. Have a long ways to go, but am enjoying the journey!

Those hearts are so pretty--they just scream "love" and "be my Valentine." Someone's going to love them!

I agree, Barb the dolls are gorgeous. I'm quilting a pinwheel quilt/quillow (Missouri Star technique for pinwheels) in white, bright colours and a lot of pink for one of my GD's. I appliqued the pillow part of the quillow with flowers and hearts, and I'm pleased with the result. I'm also hand quilting a hand appliqued quilt, I'm slow doing hand work and this has taken over a year. I'm ready to start quilting my 2014 BOM when I finish the little quillow for my GD.
