Ask and it shall be granted.....
I've created a "Grand Illusion Quilters" group open to all, whether you are making the quilt yourself or not. I turned everything on so I think all users can do everything, although I wasn't sure what all of it meant. We'll see how this works....
Come one, come all!!
(I'll upload my pictures when I'm on my personal laptop....)

Nancy, I signed up with the group and even created a discussion called Grand Illusion Step 1. However, I could NOT find a way to upload photos directly to the discussion. It does have an "insert image" section, but I couldn't understand the information it wanted, and saw no way to upload my photos. So instead, I did manage to create a link that goes to my Grand Illusion blog, so maybe that will suffice for now.
I can see here on this post that I CAN attach a file, so for the heck of it, I'll try here, too. There are photos of my cut strips and squares, one practice block, and a tentative fabric selection which I probably won't use all of.

Carol I tried to respond to your discussion in the GI group but when I clicked on 'reply' nothing happened. (Rolling my eyes again here!) I love your fabrics they are so bright and cheerful.
I really really wish whoever is working on this sight could get the widgets to work they way we humans expect.

Rita, either a lot of functions are not yet operational, or it is not the least bit intuitive! That can be very frustrating!
On the fabric colors, I tried to stick pretty close to Bonnie Hunter's suggestions, but her aqua/teal choice of paint chip was more green than the colors I chose, which range more toward blue. I like what I've got, though, so that's all that matters.
I have my backing fabric, too. She made a point of saying that one of her inspirations was the black and white tile floor, so I choose a black and white background fabric.

Ok, I'm in!
I do covet Sheryn's sewing space. (I think I spelled her name wrong! sorry!)
Carole are you using all batiks? I was thinking of doing that.
I know this will take me much longer than the planned time, but it will be fun.
Thanks Nancy for making a group for us.
Let's have some fun!

Sharyn, I just found this post and am fascinated by the La Passacaglia quilt. Have you posted pictures that I haven't found? That book may just have to come into my sewing room!
I found a woman in Germany, blog post Grit's Life, who did an amazing hexagon project that somehow is worked on a circle. Amazingly, the pattern is on her site for free! I've started it and in about 2 months have gotten a good bit done.
Thanks for the information about another exciting prospect.
I'm also doing the Grand Illusion, but only quarter size. My hexagons are keeping me busy enough for now!

Marge, I have 6 or 7 rosettes finished now, and am just as excited to get going on La Passacaglia this morning as the day I started it
There are 10 million of those stars that separate the various rosettes from each other so I do a day of just making stars at least once a week...
The book can be tricky to find. The directions are in French and English, but I think a beginner might have a hard time with the patterns. Mostly what you go by are the graphics. They show you what components make up the individual rosettes and how many those rosettes you will need.
I can't find the Grand Illusion thread, can someone post a link here? thanks Sharyn
Edited to add: I just reread this thread and see I've not posted any photos at all of La Pas so I will start a thread for everyones english paper piecing projects. And put some images in
edited again!!! I'm having trouble understanding where to actually begin a new thread for epp, help!
Traditional Quilting? english paper piecing has been around 100's of years
This and That?
