making a coverlet out of fatbacks
I have a fatback that I haven't used yet. Was thinking of making a summer coverlet out of it. I was thinking I could make it reversible with a fatback on the back. Wondering if no batting would work and wondering how much to quilt it if at all. I haven't been on here in ages.

I just finished a quilt with no batting...I like how it turned out. Very scrappy and very light weight. Its a circle in a square type pattern. I did minimal stitch in the ditch with my walking foot. Its a lap-size and is perfect for my hot flash/cold flash moments!

As far as I know, it's a wide piece of fabric that's sold for use as a quilt back, that doesn't require any piecing. I think it's 108 inches wide. I've ordered some extra wide fabric for big quilts before- it's great not having to figure out how to piece the back.
I made a quilt from homespun type 10 inch squares, with a backing but no batting. It turned out very nice. I gave it to a friend who uses it when she's sitting on her patio taking a nap!

I thought a fatback was what one calls the fabric sold to back quilts that is 108 inches wide. Today I hemmed one I had around all sides and since it smells terrible threw it in the wash to wash it before using it. It is about as big as my king quilt which will be too hot to use this week. We are having a lot of humidity and later in the week it's going to be about 90 degrees or so. I was hemming it and it smelled like bait worms. I felt like I was fishing. In any case if I ever do a queen size quilt I will probably back it with this kind of fabric. It isn't as smooth as your usual cotton fabric used in quilting though.

When I googled the term it mostly sent me to the meat definition. Christian Lane came up also, though. I purchased my yardage from Keepsake Quilting, but they have yardage in that width at my local quilt shops.
