Making a quilt very warm with wool batting

My two teens both needed a jump for our oldest car in very cold conditions within a week of each other. It is making me think of making a whole cloth quilt to put in the car. Wondering if wool batting would make it much better at keeping one warm. Cotton is not a very good insulator. But unless it's wet it isn't bad. I have polyester batting to throw into a quick quilt. Wondering if that would be almost just as good as wool and the thicker the better. Is it worth buying a wool batting and are they very expensive?

I would go for the wool. One extra advantage of wool is that it continues to give warmth even if wet. Polyester and cotton certainly don't do that. Of course the wool will be much warmer if dry. I have found the wool to be a little more expensive than cotton, but quite a bit lower than bamboo and silk. Of course I'm going by the prices here in Switzerland, and those are very much depending on where the stuff is imported from and by what shipping method... Havn't tried the bamboo batting as its very difficult to find and expensive when I do find it.

Thanks, Lotti. I made my last quilt for my teenaged son (18), and he hasn't used it much. It's getting no use, so maybe we should put it in the car trunk. It's black and can probably take the abuse. It's a liitle big for a throw, it's 72" square

          thanks, Lotti.

Put in trunk, or fold it up so that it fits on the space behind the back seat... I always keep a blanket up there, this way it's accessible from inside the car.
