How to quilt over fabric that is not pulled taut.

This is a real problem I haven't any idea of how to do. I was thinking I could quilt the rest of the quilt and then wash it to shrink those areas before quilting. Someone suggested ironing maybe with steam. Help!! Jan

Is this a quilt that will be laundered? If so, I strongly suggest you spray the loose areas with starch, use your hand to pat it flat and let it dry before you move it. That will probably draw up some (all?) of the fullness so you can quilt it, but it really should be laundered when it's finished to remove the starch.
Aggressive steaming also can help. Please let us know what you try and what works for you! Good luck!

Here's what I'm doing. I am quilting concentric lines 1/4 inch inside the triangles and squares. It seems to be working. I am using my j foot which has a 1/4 inch line on it with the feed dogs up. I lost my 1/4 " foot. Unfortunately I quilted out side these areas on one side, so I can't re-do the safety pins. It is rough. It's my first quilt with options to free motion areas other than straight lines. I just am not ready to do much else. I plan on doing loops and hearts in the outer border. I'll match the thread so my mistakes are less obvious. If you go on facebook you can see it in my picture under Jan Joseph. Thanks, Jan
