    Hand appliqué vs raw edge

I am starting an appliqué quilt. I am very excited about it and am eager to get going. I have done some appliqué before so not going in completely blind. Could those experienced in both methods help me know the pros and cons of the two different methods. Thank you for all of your advice and guidance - Love this group!!!

Can you post a picture of the applique quilt you are planning on making.? I love applique and I do both turned edge by machihe
and raw edge. If there is a lot of detail with with points I would recommend raw edge. If the pieces are really small I would
recommend raw edge. Hand applique works well with gentle curves. What applique have you done in the past? Hand or raw
edge. Another thing to consider is how much you will wash the quilt. If it is a kids quilt and will be washed a lot, I would go
with turned edge that is stitched by machine. If it is going going to not get a lot of use, or would be to hard to turn the edges
I would go with raw edge. In the first picture the 6 inch blocks that are flowers between the modified 9 patch are turned edge,
stitched by machine. Black background quilt is raw edge, with a lot of the edges covered by a cross over couching stitch that
uses 6 ply embroidery thread or pearl cotton 8. HelenW

Thank you so much for all the helpful advice! I think after reading the post I will go with hand applique. I would be able to do it in multiple places and really take my time. I am not as comfortable with machine work. Here is the quilt

What a fabulous quilt pattern. I love, love, love it. What is the name and designer. It might just get on my
wish list of quilts I would love to do. It is perfect for turned edge applique. Either glue turned edge or needle turn.
I love using the Appliquick sticks for glue turned edge. Do you have them? I bought them years ago, and use them
almost daily. I also like using wash away stabilizer and turn the seam allowance over it with Sewline Glue pen.
It can be run thru the inkjet printer and has a light fusible on one side. You cut out the shape from the paper,
fuse it to the back of the fabric, and then cut the fabric leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Then it is ready to applique by hand or machine.
