Downloaded the pattern and got one big page made. Then took Barbara Black's common sense idea and shopped
by fabric closet for things that might work. Alex's wool applique pattern definitely has the Sue Spargo influence.
Sense my sewing budget is allergic to the price of wool, most of my fabrics will be cotton. I do have a couple pieces
of wool that I will use as accents. Next fabric thing to do is audition lay outs for the background. This should be a
really fun project, and I love the pattern that Alex created. HelenW
PS Carole Berry I am looking forward to the fabrics you pulled from your wool stash.

Auditioning background fabrics...I cut some rectangles and square of various sizes that would stitch together
easily. I one focus rectangle of the original pattern is the one I have been trading out. Still might try
some circles or an oval shape in that area. It is fun just playing around and not sewing anything yet.
I added a couple more rectangles that I will applique to the background besides the original one.

Kaye, From the 3 photos I like the violet the best. The idea, I think, is to add texture but not take away for the applique
that will lay on top of it. Maybe lay the fabrics for the applique folded on top or along side each of your options take a photo
and see which looks like it goes best with the fabrics from the kit. I am just pulling from my stash, so anything goes. That
is why I am going for more background fabrics but all in the same color family. HelenWHelenW

Thank you Helen. The violet also shows wind movement so I agree with your reasoning. I was looking more at color so was leaning towards the yellow, which is why it is good to get another’s perspective. On your post, I mentioned I liked the one on the left in the 3rd photo, but meant to say the right one in the 3rd photo.
