I am using my stash. Hand sewed charm squares and then used wool for appliqués. Since I only have off white wool, embroidery will be colors. Doing some beading also. Thanks Alex for tip using 2 colors for variegated threads. Looking forward to more stitches. I am summering in Wisconsin without my sewing machine, so it is all hand work I am doing. This project is perfect. I have 4 projects and I am sure some of these stitches will find their way into those projects.Linda H

Progress this week... Worked on the white circle, gave the bird a bee to look at, and did some
stitching on the leaves. Was going to do the wheatear stitch as the vein of the leaf, but did it wrong,
and I am leaving it because it looks very similar. I did a fly stitch, chain stitch, fly stitch etc. The
wheatear stitch you weave thru the fly stitch as the anchor for the chain stitch. I got lazy and
used my machine to edge stitch the turned edge of the cheddar petals. I will cover the stitches
with chain stitches. Made my center circles bigger so I can put a yellow yo yo in each one.
It is such a change of pace from doing the fastest and most efficient way to make a block to slow,
slow, slow. But I am learning a lot and having fun. HelenW

Kathleen G. I think your photos are too big for the allowed size in the forum. Barbara Black has a post you can readOriginally posted by tupper View PostI added beads on the stems
on how to post pictures. On my iMac computer i select the photo and set the size to 60 % and it always works.
I would love to see your bead work. HelenW

I love seeing everyone’s Wishes project and would love to see more. I take daily photos and sometimes they show me when something isn’t working. I did the bullion stitch for far right flower using the green/gold variegated thread (used in stem) and it did not work for me and I ended up taking them out. I’m in process of replacing with same thread I used for chain stitch and I’m glad I made the change. I’ll use the same thread for loop stitch in petals. I hope it’s not too bland. I’m running out of space on the left for dandelion “puff”. I’m thinking about adding a 2 inch strip of black to allow for more “wishes”.

Sandy F. Way too too cute. Love the Llama. Got me curious, can you post a picture of the Mystery
quilt. Right now I have to work on a project that is time sensitive, so I won't be doing much for a
month. But I will try to sneak in some hand stitching, since it is so portable. It is so hard
not to stitch by hand when I am enjoying it so much. HelenW

I've been a member of the Quilt Show for many years yet this is the first time I've posted on the forum. Here's my situation - I've been following Alex's class on her "Wishes" wool applique project. Unfortunately, I didn't order the kit when it was available and I've just learned there won't be any more kits made up. I'm reaching out to see if someone may have a "Wishes" kit they no longer want that I could purchase? Id love to join in the fun. I know the pattern is available if I'm unable to find a kit, but the kit included many extras that would be helpful.

Mary B. If no one steps up to sell their beautiful kit to you, you might try contacting Sue Spargo
BOM person Jen. Alex said that since her shop staff were all allergic to wool that they had Sue
Spargo's shop do the kitting. Don't know if they could or would do it, but quilting ladies are so
wonderfully nice it is worth a try. Or if they would not do it. you could get the list of fabric and
threads from the pattern and search it out online. Red Thread studio and West Coast wool
are sites to try too. HelenW

Helen W. Thank you for your suggestion to contact Jen at Sue Spargo's shop for the Wishes kit. I remember Alex commenting that her staff was allergic to the wool but I must have missed it when she said Sue Spargo's shop did the kitting for this project. I will definitely try going that route. Otherwise, I'll buy the pattern and go from there. Again, thank you for your great suggestion! Mary

Helen, I have no idea what the quilt is going to look like. The site is Murder Mystery Quilt and this years BOM is Murder at Machu Picchu. The site owner has written a mystery book and we are sent a chapter and one or more blocks to complete each month. If we submit photo of our completed block by months deadline we are sent a clue to solve who the murderer is and have a chance to win some prizes. We are given a couple of options for the blocks, usually a patchwork and a paper pieced. You pick what you want to do so no two quilts are going to be the same. I have opted for embroidery instead of paper piecing. I posted my blocks Jan - May. I’m remaking the large block. I decided to reduce by 50% after making January block. We were given recommended colors to use and yardage needed.

Hi Sandy, Interesting BOM. I am too much of a control
person to not know if I am even going to like what I make. I like to redesign most patterns to fit my likes
and color preferences. I like the idea of embroidery
and pieced blocks. Thanks for taking the time to post
the picture. I like your llama best of the embroideries.

I think I am about finished. Still have a few things to complete and lots of silver French Knots to complete. I settled on 4 strands of silver metallic thread and 4 wraps for knots. I have some with 2 strands white floss plus 2 strands metallic thread that I am going to leave. I don’t like working with metallic thread.Last edited by Sandy F.; 06-29-2025, 02:33 PM.

I used Kathleen g 's idea of beads on a stem. I did the closed fly stitch with
one bead on each tail stitch. Then I decided to put some closed fly stitches
between the flow petals. Still lots and lots to do. HelenW
