Loved this class! Definitely stepped out of my comfort zone and learned so much. The border is not sewed on yet. The border fabrics and large blocks are from a fabric line that Alex designed. Since I was named "teacher's pet", I felt pressure to make this look good. (Don't want to be kicked out of class! lol) Thank you Alex!

If you never plan to wash it you probably don't need to wash it to shrink and set the colors, but If you ever have an unfortunate thing happen, and it does have to be washed.
you might wish you had washed it in advance. Besides if you give it to someone and they know nothing about quilts or fabric wall hangings they might wash it and it could
cause problems. It does not take that long to wash and set the color. Batik are the worst for colors bleeding, but I always use Synthrapol to set color and wash to shrink.
I use starch on the fabric because it make you rotary cuts easier and more accurate. Hope this helps. HelenWHelenW

Yes, I would definitely prewash your fabric. Dry and starch before cutting.
On another note: polka dots. If you are having trouble finding Kaffe polka dots, go to
Lyonsquilting.com, 303- 823-6067
Speak to Tracy or Amy. Their shop
Is featured in this month’s Quilt Sampler.
I’m not quite finished that’s why I ordered some polka dots. My quilt needs “something.” Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary

I agree that you should pre-wash your fabric. When dry, starch and iron before cutting.
On another note, if you are looking for Kaffe fabrics or like in my case, polka dots, I recommend
lyonquilting.com in Colorado. 303-823-6067.
They are featured in this month’s Quilt Sampler.
I’m not finished with mine and I thought it needed something more. Hence the polka dots. Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks,
Mary

My Kaffe quilt top is waiting to be custom Quilted Alex but I wanted to thank you for this creative experience. My passion is appliqué so although I have been quilting for many years I tend to avoid machine piecing. I learned so much Alex. I had a single hole throat plate but never used it, finally feel like I am better with my quarter inch seams, have started a solids stash which I usually avoid. Who knew I would prefer glue over pins. I now own a cordless Panasonic and what a difference with my new wool mat. Looking forward to learning more with the baskets. Thanks again.
