This is the first time I've attempted something with so many small HSTs. Does anyone have any suggestions for pressing? The seams are awfully thick -- I've tried pressing them to the dark side and also have tried pressing them open. Open seams seem to be a little flatter, but I'm not really happy with either. Help, please?

Use Quilters’s Select 60 weight thread for piecing. Made a huge difference in ironing.

Thank you, Rhondi. I'll try that, and 80 wt. in he bobbin. However, I wasn't very clear when I wrote about the seams -- the seams themselves are flat, it's the 1/4 inch seam allowances that are awfully thick. Maybe I should get a rubber mallet and pound them :-)

Alone the seams may seem thick but when you piece them together those seams will be the same thickness and everything will look correct.

Sondra17, One thing you might try that was a tip from Sally Collins, wrote the book Precision Piecing, is to first set the seam, then press to the dark, while still hot lay a heavy book on it until it cools. She does it assembly line like. She has several books on a table near the ironing station and that allows her to iron the next while one is cooling. I have tried it and it works well. Usually I am in too much of a hurry
to take the time but you might want to give it a try. HelenW

I certainly hope it turns out! It looks OK, but where the seams cross, it's just so thick!

Thank you for taking the time to share this suggestion. I've been doing that for the last 5-4 projects and it's wonderful! However, the places where the seams cross are thick -- as in 6 layers of fabric thick. It may be because the HSTs are so small that I really notice it. We'll see how it is to quilt when I finish the top.
