Learn Paper Piecing with the Maven, David Sirota | Adapting Your Studio For Change with Lilo Bowman

(Show 2903) David Sirota loves teaching and entertaining quilters. But he also loves teaching. He first shows you a paper piecing technique using Vellum that doesn’t require the need for tearing away paper. While looking at his quilts in show and tell, we learn that David inherited his love of sewing from his grandfather, who was a tailor. In his last demo, and always one to look for an easier and more precise way of doing things, David shares his technique for creating perfect points using dental floss. Then, TQS Editor Lilo Bowman shares tips and tricks for adapting your studio space due to frequent moves, downsizing, or physical changes with aging.

Both were great on the show today!

Dave, Thank you, Thank you!, for the dental floss idea to secure points, works so great! I am piecing a small sample Storm At Sea using traditional paper piecing and do look forward to trying the vellum to eliminate all the paper tearing struggles. Am thrilled with success of first large paper piecing project. The needle holder Dave had was great too. Keep us posted if it becomes a stocked item.

Love the show. However, when using the 97D foot don't forget to engage the duel feed.

I have to assume that Lilo made her pants. They are fabulous. Any idea what pattern was used?

Great show as usual.

I’m trying to find premier designs floor rugs that Lilo referenced. Is that the correct name of the company?

I have made only one paper pieced table topper, and it was trial, and error, and error, and error. Finally finished and was pleased with it but somewhat frustrated. David's method makes it so much easier to see the correct direction for each additional piece of the pattern. And not having to pull out all the stitched down paper. Another time saving feature. I really appreciated his clear directions, and his sense of humor too. Yep, he's a maven. Thanks!!

He was going to talk about freezer paper but never got to it, otherwise lots of great ideas.

As I was watching Lilo Bowman and her organizing ideas, I became concerned with the switching of chairs from a stable chair with legs to an office style chair. If you have an individual with handicaps who tries to sit in the office chair, there is an increased risk of the chair rolling backwards causing the person to fall on their bum increasing the risk of an injury. Unfortunately I am not sure I have a solution.
