I went back to my machine and finished my blocks. One thing I have concluded...I am no Sally Collins or Laura Nownes.   I cut one whole strip a quarter inch too narrow, had two blocks where the points were decidedly off, and even sewed one section to the wrong side. NO I am not a traditional quilter.  Anyway, I got them made. I am making this just for fun so I'm not going to do much frogging except when absolutely necessary. Here are my blocks:

I don't catagorize myself as traditional or non-traditional, but I've made enough traditional quilts to know that many fine traditional quilters do all those things you just listed. ops:  ops:  LOL. You can do those things even if you are really, really good quilter. I don't think those errors are automatic cause for eliminating yourself from the traditional crowd.

BJ, very pretty green--they look like roses on the fabric. Are you going to show the green fabrics you're playing with?

Thanks! I put the best ones on top.   I have 15 art quilts on my list on my door to make, and that's just the ones I've already gotten the designs mostly figured out. Of those, three require some traditional blocks as part of the quilt (for example, Storm at Sea--with part of the waves being traditional quilting blocks and a clipper ship in a storm). So I figured it was a good idea to make this little sampler. I think I must live to 150 to finish all the quilts I want to make.

So, I was just going to 'watch' the lessons with Laura, but again, have given in to temptation and will be joining you gals on this adventure.
Thanks for the wide h-i-n-t to used my stash, and not waste it. I am going to cut (oh, dear, ouch, I hope I will cut, but softly, yeow..!) some of those lovelies I've never had the heart to cut before. Like a wonderful one I've had for more than 10 years. Enough, already! On to 9-patch!

I had emailed Laura, to ask the total dimensions, and she said 46 x 46, but maybe that is on the lessons now.

Oh all right. I had a dickens of a time getting the camera to cough up anything like the right colors (the bird is still more green in the background). But here you go. I find if I replace several blocks with a bird, that I can get perfectly wonderful 6 inch blocks fussy cut out of the bird fabric.

                            Love the fabrics Betty Jo.

I've been really careful cutting and sewing with matching seams and I've still got 1/16" out. How did that happen, I'm going to have to search for Margo's tips on checking your seams. Can anyone remember which thread it was?

Hi Wendy. I have needed Margo's test a few times so I have saved it to my favourites on my profile page. Here's the link:

Lovin' the fabrics BJ. The green in your 9-patches is a beautiful colour.

BJ thanks for the warning about the nagging and dangerous phone calls. Way to many people get scammed that way. Since we moved to AZ las year we decided not to have a land line anymore. All we use now is cell phones and wireless for internet and security services. You would think it would solve the issue of unwanted calls but, we still get some of those every now and then and also now we're getting text messages too

Your blocks look great and love your fabrics!!! Your art quilts are awesome    , you're getting me inspired to give them a try. I'm considering getting started with a small piece using pictures of flowers from my garden when I lived in Alaska and Missouri. If it turns out decent will donate it to the TQS/AAQI Challenge 2012.
